No: the claim that the next The Legend of Zelda game will fix the series timeline is not confirmed. A surfaced video describes a possible leak, but points to an earlier podcast whose claim has not been independently verified. Nintendo has not announced that a future game will resolve the timeline.
What the alleged Zelda leak actually says
A January 2026 commentary video discusses a possible leak about a future Zelda game and attributes the claim to an earlier podcast. The podcast itself was not independently verified, and the surfaced video is commentary rather than an official Nintendo announcement. That makes “the next game will fix the timeline” an unconfirmed interpretation, not established news. Source: surfaced video description

What Nintendo has confirmed about Zelda continuity
In a 2023 developer interview, producer Eiji Aonuma described Tears of the Kingdom as a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, set shortly after it in the same already-realized Hyrule. He explained that the team continued with a sequel because it had new ideas for that setting: “Although the previous title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has its own conclusion, we started to come up with new ideas that we wanted to bring to life in this already realized version of Hyrule, so our direction in making a sequel did not change.” Nintendo developer interview
Aonuma also said, “Yes, this title is set in Hyrule shortly after the end of the previous game.” Those statements describe the development and setting of Tears of the Kingdom; they do not tell us how an unannounced future game will handle continuity. Nintendo developer interview

Why fans are discussing a second founding of Hyrule
A September 14, 2026 report by Nintendo Life says Nintendo updated its official Zelda timeline to include another “founding of Hyrule” near the later part of the chronology. The outlet interprets this as seeming to support the fan “refounding” theory: the Hyrule in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom may have been founded after an earlier kingdom. That is a reading of the timeline update, not confirmation that Nintendo plans to explain it in a future game. Nintendo Life report
The reported timeline change and the alleged leak are separate claims. The former is secondary reporting about an official timeline update and a fan interpretation; the latter is commentary passing along an unverified podcast claim. Neither establishes that a new game is intended to repair or clarify the series chronology.
What Nintendo’s 2026 announcement does—and does not—show
Nintendo UK’s 2026 anniversary Direct page highlights Ocarina of Time for Switch 2. The listed information on that page does not say a new mainline Zelda game will fix the timeline. That is a limited check of the page, not proof that no announcement exists elsewhere or could appear later. Nintendo UK anniversary Direct page

| Claim | What the source supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Tears of the Kingdom follows Breath of the Wild. | Aonuma said it is a direct sequel set shortly after its predecessor, in a 2023 Nintendo developer interview. Nintendo interview | How a future, unannounced game will treat the timeline. |
| The timeline may show a later founding of Hyrule. | Nintendo Life reported a 2026 timeline update and described it as apparently supporting the fan refounding interpretation. Nintendo Life report | That the refounding theory is Nintendo’s intended explanation, or that a game will address it. |
| The next game will fix the timeline. | A January 2026 commentary video presents a possible leak and attributes it to an earlier podcast. Video description | Independent verification of the podcast claim or official confirmation from Nintendo. |
Until Nintendo makes a direct, attributable statement or announcement, the most accurate description is that a timeline fix is rumored. The idea may fit fan discussion around the reported refounding, but the available evidence does not confirm it as a plan for the next Zelda game.
