The NFL’s Week 4 report listed him as a full participant with no game-status designation, after he missed Week 3 with a hamstring injury. Confirm the final Week 5 report and game-day inactives before kickoff; Houston is scheduled to play at Tennessee on October 11.
Who should you start among the Texans’ wide receivers?
For Week 5, Collins is the preferred Texans receiver when available. Houston’s current depth chart lists him first, and his displayed Week 1 log shows 7 catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. The early-season evidence for the other options is limited and does not establish a dependable weekly floor.
Texans receiver order
- Nico Collins: Start him if active. His listed role and available receiving production put him ahead of Houston’s other options.
- Xavier Hutchinson: The most cautious fallback among the alternatives reviewed, particularly for deeper leagues or an emergency roster spot.
- Kayshon Boutte or Jaylin Noel: High-variance choices; the available early-season logs do not support recommending either over an active Collins.
This is a ranking among Houston receivers, not a recommendation to use one over a stronger option from another team.
Check Collins’ availability before lineup lock
The NFL’s Week 4 injury report listed Collins at full practice participation with no game-status designation. That is encouraging, but Houston’s official Week 3 report had listed him out with a hamstring injury after no practice participation Wednesday through Friday. Because the Week 4 game against Dallas had not yet been played when this information was compiled on October 4, 2026, it does not include that game’s result or later updates.

Before making the decision, check the final injury report and the Texans’ game-day inactives. A full practice report from the prior week is not a guarantee that a player will be active for the next game.
What the early-season receiving totals show
CBS Sports’ displayed 2026 game logs through Week 3 list the following totals for the three alternatives:
Rank #2
| Receiver | Receptions | Receiving yards | Touchdowns |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xavier Hutchinson | 9 | 120 | 0 |
| Kayshon Boutte | 6 | 79 | 0 |
| Jaylin Noel | 5 | 101 | 0 |
Hutchinson leads those alternatives in both catches and yards in the displayed sample. Noel’s yardage total is notable relative to his five catches, but these numbers alone do not show consistent target volume or a secure weekly role. Depth-chart context offers a secondary clue: Hutchinson is listed behind Collins, Boutte after Hutchinson, and Noel as the slot receiver in another current listing. Treat those listings as context, not as a forecast.
FantasyData’s displayed Week 1 log for Collins records 7 receptions, 75 yards, and 1 touchdown against Buffalo. That single-game line is evidence of his available production, not a projection for Week 5.
Rank #3
Adjust the choice for your league and roster
- In PPR: Receptions add scoring value, so compare each player’s expected catch opportunity as well as yards and touchdown potential. The available logs do not establish a dependable target volume for the alternatives.
- In standard scoring: With no reception bonus, touchdowns and yardage carry more weight. The reviewed early-season logs show no touchdowns for Hutchinson, Boutte, or Noel through the displayed three games.
- Across formats: The player pages display fantasy points, but they do not clearly establish the scoring rules behind every point total. Use your league’s settings rather than treating those figures as universal projections.
- When weighing risk: Compare Collins’ final availability status with the best non-Texans options on your roster. Hutchinson is better treated as a deep-league or emergency fallback than as a reliable weekly start.
Week 5 matchup context
Houston’s listed Week 5 game is at Tennessee on October 11, 2026. The available information does not establish a reliable matchup-specific defensive edge, so avoid using the opponent alone to elevate one Texans receiver over another.
