For a first playthrough of NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black, choose Hero if you want extra survival support, Acolyte for the manual’s standard difficulty, or Warrior if you already enjoy demanding action games. During fights, finish enemies whose limbs have been severed, use a counter just before an incoming hit lands, and collect nearby essence to charge an Ultimate Technique faster. The official manual documents these systems and the chapter-replay options; it does not provide a complete verified chapter-by-chapter route or boss guide.
What this walkthrough covers
NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black is a current-generation remaster of the 2008 action game. KOEI TECMO lists its release date as January 23, 2025, and its platforms as PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store, and Steam. The publisher describes a global battle starring Ryu Hayabusa, with weapons such as swords, shuriken, kusarigama, and tonfa, plus playable characters Momiji, Ayane, and Rachel. Choose a difficulty for your first playthrough
The manual presents five difficulty paths. The first-playthrough selection offers Hero, Acolyte, Warrior, and Mentor; Master Ninja becomes available after you clear the game once on any difficulty.

These descriptions set expectations rather than promising a particular level of ease. If you are unsure, Hero’s automatic defense at low health is the clearest extra support the manual identifies; you can also start with Acolyte if you prefer the stated standard difficulty.
Combat actions that prevent avoidable deaths
Finish enemies with severed limbs
When an enemy has a dismembered limb, use Obliteration to deliver the finishing blow. A wounded enemy can still crawl and attack, so do not assume it is harmless just because it has been cut down. If you are close enough, finish it rather than turning away.

Counter just before an attack connects
To counter, press the attack input immediately before blocking an enemy attack. The manual warns that the timing is tight and says the counter has a substantial effect. Treat it as a timed response, not as a replacement for blocking whenever you are uncertain about the window.
Charge Ultimate Techniques with nearby essence
Hold the technique input to charge an Ultimate Technique, then release it. The charge has two stages, with the second more powerful. Essence from defeated enemies or chests is collected when you are nearby and makes charging faster. You cannot collect essence while blocking, so account for that when deciding whether to hold your guard or build a charge.

Use the control page for your platform
The manual separates controls for PS5, Xbox, PC gamepad, and PC keyboard and mouse. Consult the page for your platform rather than relying on a universal button mapping: prompts and inputs are not interchangeable across those layouts. The manual also covers basic actions, route detection, Ninpo, Karma, chapter challenges, and tag missions.

- Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (Ninja Gaiden 2).
- Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.
- Classic Costumes included.
- DLC costumes included.
- Continue: resume from the last checkpoint.
- Load Game: load from the last checkpoint or a cleared chapter.
- Chapter Challenge: replay chapters you have already completed, at a selected difficulty. You cannot advance from the selected chapter to later chapters in this mode.
- Tag Missions: play missions with a partner.
If your goal is to proceed through the campaign, use Continue or Load Game as appropriate. Chapter Challenge is for replaying a completed chapter, not for carrying on into the next one.
Know what the February 2025 update changed
Team NINJA’s update page lists an entry dated February 12, 2025. That update added New Game+ and Photo Mode, added an option to hide the carried projectile weapon, lowered enemy HP in chapters 8 and 11, and increased enemy counts in chapters 13 and 14. It also increased some of Ayane’s attack damage and fixed several performance and progression bugs. These are changes recorded for that update, not confirmation that it is the latest version: consult the official update page for newer notes before relying on version-specific encounter advice.
