Ninja Gaiden 4 is a fast, demanding action game built around technical combat, but its appeal depends on whether you enjoy that intensity enough to overlook uneven traversal and pacing. Reviews from PC Gamer, TechRadar, Game Informer, and GameSpot praise the action while pointing to different weak spots. This is a synthesis of those outlets’ coverage—not a PCMag Middle East review or its verdict; that publication’s score and review details could not be verified.

What is Ninja Gaiden 4?

Ninja Gaiden 4 launched on October 21, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, according to GameSpot’s game listing. Team Ninja and PlatinumGames co-developed it; GameSpot lists Team Ninja as developer and Xbox Game Studios among the publishers. Check your regional storefront for the available edition and platform listing before buying.

The game’s central draw is character-action combat that rewards quick decisions, accurate timing, and command of its attack and defense systems. The reviewers considered here describe it as a demanding action experience rather than a relaxed, story-first adventure.

How do the reviews describe its combat?

Combat is the clearest strength across the reviews, though each outlet frames it differently. PC Gamer emphasizes a technical system of attacks, defense, and timing, and praises moments when those elements come together. TechRadar highlights speed, challenge, weapon variety, and difficulty options. Game Informer calls the game an action-focused gauntlet; GameSpot’s Richard Wakeling describes it as preserving the series’ action foundations while adding new ideas.

NINJA GAIDEN 4 | Deluxe Edition | PlayStation 5 [Disc + Code in Box]
  • DELUXE EDITION: Comes with the Base Game (disc) and exclusives like character and weapon skins for Yakumo and Ryu, Future Gameplay Content*, 50,000 Bonus NinjaCoin, and additional in-game items.
  • Experience a return to the intense, high-speed combat that established NINJA GAIDEN as a premier action game series. Prepare for a legacy reborn with captivating style for a new generation of players.
  • NINJA GAIDEN 4 fuses Team NINJA'S tempered combat philosophy with the stylish, dynamic action gameplay of PlatinumGames. Engage in visually stunning combat that rewards precision and strategy.
  • An endless rain of miasma hangs over a near-future Tokyo in the wake of an ancient enemy’s resurrection. The fate of the city lies in the hands of young ninja prodigy, Yakumo.

That intensity is a selling point if you want to learn enemy patterns and refine how you fight. It can also make the experience exhausting: Game Informer uses that word alongside its praise, and notes that stealth sections do not fit the action as well. The reviews therefore suggest a game whose moment-to-moment appeal rests more on combat than on every activity between fights.

Where does Ninja Gaiden 4 fall short?

Traversal and pacing

PC Gamer argues that repetitive traversal and uneven pacing dilute the combat’s impact. TechRadar also identifies platforming as a weakness. These are individual reviewers’ judgments, but they point to a shared decision for prospective players: whether stretches of movement and platforming are an acceptable break from the fights or a drag on momentum.

Ninja Gaiden Ragebound (PS5) - 2D Action, Hand Drawn Graphics, Epic Story
  • INTENSIVE 2D ACTION: Engage in fast melee and acrobatic movements that require precision and concentration to master every challenge your way through the game.
  • CONFIDENCY VISUAL STYLE: Explore hand-drawn environments with dark and atmospheric tones that deliver a unique visual identity and enhance the epic feel throughout the game.
  • NEW HERO AND STORY: Take the role of Kenji Mozu, disciple of Ryu Hayabusa, and unexpectedly work with enemies to fight the demons invasion and restore balance between the worlds.
  • INNOVATIVE GAMING SYSTEMS: Discover new abilities and battle techniques through the band between Kenji and the mysterious Kumori, which opens up to variety and strategy in the gaming experience.
  • CHOOSING FIENDS AND BOODS : Every enemy and boss requires carefully timing and strategy, where slightest mistakes can become decisive, keeping the adrenaline at peak in any confrontation.

Story and stealth

TechRadar criticizes the story, while Game Informer takes issue with stealth sections. Neither point means every player will reject those parts, but readers looking primarily for a compelling narrative or consistently combat-focused stages should treat them as potential drawbacks.

What did reviewers test, and how should you compare versions?

The reviews were not all conducted on the same hardware, so they do not establish which platform performs best. PC Gamer reports testing on a PC with a Radeon RX 9070 XT, Intel i5-13600K, and 64GB DDR5; that setup is specific to its review, not a general performance benchmark. TechRadar lists Xbox Series X and PC as tested platforms. Game Informer lists Xbox Series X/S as its review platform, with PC and PS5 as additional platforms.

GameSpot’s Wakeling reports playing for 18 hours, completing the campaign in roughly 12 hours and spending the remaining time on trials and replay. That is one reviewer’s account, not a guaranteed completion time. The available reviews do not establish a universal best platform; compare evidence for the version you plan to play rather than inferring performance from another outlet’s setup.

  • Platform and hardware: Check which version the reviewer actually tested and what hardware they used.
  • Combat and difficulty: Look for discussion of responsiveness, technical depth, weapon variety, and difficulty options.
  • Coverage: Distinguish a campaign-focused review from one that also spends time on trials, replay, or optional content.
  • Level experience: Weigh comments about traversal, platforming, pacing, and story against the combat strengths.

Is Ninja Gaiden 4 worth playing?

If challenging, technical action is your priority, the reviews offer a strong reason to consider Ninja Gaiden 4: multiple outlets single out its speed and combat, and TechRadar also praises its weapons and difficulty options. If repetitive traversal, uneven pacing, platforming, stealth, or story problems would outweigh strong fights for you, the reported caveats matter. The overall judgment is therefore taste-dependent, not a single consensus verdict—and it should not be mistaken for PCMag Middle East’s review.
