Yes. Nintendo reported that cumulative sell-in of Nintendo Switch surpassed Nintendo DS through the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, making Switch the highest-selling Nintendo hardware in the company’s history. Nintendo’s figure for Switch at that point was 155.37 million units.
What Nintendo announced
In its nine-month financial-results material, published February 3, 2026, Nintendo said Switch had surpassed DS in cumulative hardware sell-in and reached the highest sales volume of any Nintendo hardware. The reported Switch total was 155.37 million units. Nintendo’s nine-month financial results explanatory material is the source for both the ranking and the figure.
That wording matters: the milestone is based on Nintendo’s cumulative sell-in reporting. It is a company-reported hardware sales measure, not a count of consoles independently verified as owned by consumers or still in use.
How to read the 155.37 million figure
The 155.37 million figure is Switch’s cumulative hardware sales figure in Nintendo’s nine-month reporting. It is not the number sold during that fiscal year, nor a current-user estimate. Nintendo’s report supports the Switch figure and the claim that it passed DS; it does not establish an exact DS total in the cited material, so an exact side-by-side DS number should not be inferred from this announcement.

Why later sales figures are different
Nintendo’s fiscal year 2026 ran from April 2025 through March 2026. In results published May 8, 2026, the company separately reported 3.80 million Switch hardware units sold during that fiscal year, which ended March 31, 2026. That annual figure is distinct from the 155.37 million cumulative total reported through the third quarter. Nintendo also said Switch entered its tenth year since launch in March 2026. Nintendo’s fiscal-year 2026 operating results provide that later context.
Nintendo’s investor-relations events listing records a later three-month earnings release on August 6, 2026. That later date does not change the basis of the 155.37 million milestone cited here: it comes from the nine-month material, not an August 2026 cumulative update. Nintendo’s IR events page lists the release dates.

What “best-selling Nintendo console” means here
Nintendo’s statement calls Switch the highest-selling Nintendo hardware, using the company’s cumulative sell-in comparison. It is therefore accurate to say Switch has surpassed DS in Nintendo-reported cumulative hardware sales. It would be a different claim to compare active players, games sold, or figures assembled under another reporting method.
