The game is a science-fiction role-playing adventure set in 2054, after Earth has been destroyed. A colony ship carrying human survivors crashes on the planet Mira. Players explore its dangers as a customizable character, fight enemies, and pilot Skells. Nintendo also describes online squad play: squads can include up to 31 other players, with special assignments for groups of four. Online play requires internet access, a Nintendo Account, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership; Nintendo says the service is not available in every country.

These are “up to” figures, not a promise that every scene stays at 60 fps. Nintendo’s footnote says 4K and 60 fps are available in supported games, require a compatible display, and that frame rates are capped at 60 fps for 4K output. How much is the Switch 2 upgrade?
If you own the Nintendo Switch version of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, Nintendo offers a separate digital Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. Can the Switch 2 Edition play on an original Switch?
No. Nintendo UK says the Switch 2 Edition is playable only on Nintendo Switch 2. If you insert its physical or virtual game card into an original Nintendo Switch, the console plays the Switch version without the Switch 2 Edition’s additional features.
