- Check the warranty and the service terms before shipping. Nintendo of America’s factory service terms say Nintendo decides whether to repair or replace a product; fee service may be available in some cases. Do not assume that a battery issue has a fixed fee or is covered.
- Review the quote and shipping instructions in your local service flow. Nintendo’s UK repair page says service may take up to 10 working days depending on the type of service and whether the repair is in or out of warranty. That timing is specific to Nintendo UK’s stated process, not a global estimate.
Nintendo’s North American troubleshooting and service information is relevant to that region; use your local Nintendo support site elsewhere. The reviewed sources do not resolve whether DIY work affects warranty rights in every country. Check the warranty terms that apply to your console and the consumer-protection rules in your location rather than assuming a universal outcome.

Can you replace a Switch 2 battery yourself?
For the design documented by iFixit, yes—but it involves opening and disassembling the console to reach an adhesive-held battery. The guide, Nintendo Switch 2 Battery Replacement, was last updated October 2, 2026. It estimates one to two hours and rates the job moderate; those are guide estimates, not independently measured results.
Tools and supplies in the guide
- A JIS-compatible driver for the console’s JIS screws. iFixit warns that an unsuitable Phillips driver can strip them.
- Opening picks and a spudger for disassembly.
- Thermal putty to complete reassembly.
- Replacement adhesive or thin double-sided tape if the replacement battery does not include adhesive.
The guide’s tool and supply requirements do not prove that a suitable replacement battery is currently available for every revision.

Battery safety precautions
- Power off the console and discharge the battery below 25% before disassembly. iFixit gives this as a precaution to reduce fire risk if the battery is damaged.
- Do not bend the battery. If it resists removal, the guide instructs the repairer to use more solvent rather than force it.
- Stop if the battery is swollen, punctured or visibly damaged. Do not pry at a damaged pack; seek appropriate repair or hazardous-battery handling instead.
These precautions come from iFixit’s guide and are not a substitute for experience with electronics repair. If you cannot confidently perform the teardown and handle a lithium-ion pack safely, use a repair provider.

Where can you buy a replacement Switch 2 battery?
The reviewed sources do not verify a reliable consumer supplier, an official battery part number, or compatibility across original and revised Switch 2 designs. iFixit’s repair instructions and tool listings are not evidence that a compatible battery is available for purchase.

Nintendo UK says selected Nintendo products in Europe are transitioning on a rolling basis to revised versions with user-replaceable batteries, in preparation for battery-regulation changes due in mid-February 2027. Nintendo expected initial revised products from summer 2026, with further additions in autumn, winter and early 2027; the company cautions that country timing may vary and estimates may change.

Nintendo says functionality does not differ between current and revised products. Its announcement does not establish a consumer battery part number or compatibility with earlier Switch 2 units. It also does not support a claim that every Switch 2, every European unit, or stock sold in every country has the revised design. Check the exact product and local Nintendo guidance.

- Your console’s exact model, hardware revision and region.
