Star Wars Outlaws has a free demo on Nintendo Switch 2, offering up to three hours in a curated section of its open-world campaign. The sample begins with the first quest, “The Heavy,” then opens Tatooine and its orbit for exploration, side quests, contracts, speeder travel, Kessel Sabacc and space combat. Any progress made in the demo stays in the demo and does not transfer to the full game.
What the Nintendo Switch 2 demo includes
Ubisoft describes Star Wars Outlaws as the first open-world Star Wars game, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. On Switch 2, the free demo is not a short introductory trailer or a single isolated mission. It is a curated mid-game slice with upgrades and selected story beats already unlocked.

The opening quest
The demo starts with “The Heavy,” identified in Ubisoft’s FAQ as the first quest. After that introduction, Tatooine and the surrounding orbit become available for free exploration, including optional activities and side quests.

Activities on Tatooine
- Search for a mercenary in the Tatooine storyline.
- Cross the dunes by speeder.
- Deal with the Hutt Cartel.
- Accept contracts in Mos Eisley.
- Play Kessel Sabacc.
- Explore outside Mos Eisley’s city limits.
Space travel and combat
The playable area extends beyond the planet. You can launch into orbit, pilot through space and take part in dogfights, giving the demo a sample of both planetary traversal and the game’s space-combat layer.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How long is the free demo?
Ubisoft gives the demo a maximum play time of up to three hours. That is an allowance, not a guarantee that every player will see identical content: the time you spend on exploration, contracts, minigames and combat determines how much of the available slice you experience.
Because the demo is designed as a showcase rather than a complete beginning-to-end campaign, it grants some upgrades and story context in advance. You therefore may encounter abilities or equipment sooner than you would in a fresh full-game save.

Does demo progress carry over to the full game?
No. Saves and progress from the Nintendo Switch 2 demo do not transfer to the full version. Treat the three hours as a self-contained trial. If you buy the game, you will begin again in the full campaign rather than continue from the demo’s Tatooine save.

Is this an open-world game on Switch 2?
Yes. The full release is presented as an open-world Star Wars game, and the demo preserves that design on a smaller scale. After “The Heavy,” you can choose whether to pursue side quests, take contracts, roam the desert, visit Mos Eisley, play Sabacc or leave the atmosphere for space battles. The demo’s boundaries are about how much content is included, not a change from open-world gameplay to a linear level.
