If your Nintendo Switch 2’s battery percentage looks nearly empty but the console keeps running, Nintendo’s recommended fix is to reset the battery meter through Recovery Mode. Check the system update and power adapter first, then enter Recovery Mode with both volume buttons held while powering on. This resets the reading; it is not a battery repair or a factory reset.
Reset the Switch 2 battery meter
Nintendo describes this issue as a mismatch between the displayed charge and the console’s actual remaining use—for example, the meter looks nearly depleted even though the system continues running for hours. Follow these steps to reset the reading:
- Check the adapter. Nintendo identifies the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter, model NGN-01, as compatible. The older Nintendo Switch AC adapter, model HAC-002, can charge Switch 2 when connected directly to the console, but cannot charge it while docked because of its power output. [Nintendo Support]
- Check for a system update. Make sure the console has the latest system software before continuing.
- Power off fully. Hold POWER for at least three seconds, choose Power Options, then select Power Off.
- Open Recovery Mode. Hold Volume + and Volume –, press POWER once, and keep holding both volume buttons until Recovery Mode appears. Nintendo says, “Navigating to this menu should reset the battery level meter.”
- Power off and restart. Hold POWER until the console turns off, then turn it back on and check the battery indicator.
You do not need to select a Recovery Mode option that erases data. Nintendo’s procedure is to reach the menu, then power off and restart.
If the reading is still inaccurate
Nintendo recommends repeating the procedure if needed. If the percentage continues to be wrong after multiple attempts, Nintendo says the console needs service. Contact Nintendo Support for the appropriate service options in your region. [Nintendo Support]

Incorrect percentage or genuinely short battery life?
A misleading meter is different from a console that fully charges but runs out sooner than expected. Battery life varies with the software and functions in use. Nintendo’s published estimates also vary by region:
