Nintendo of America said “over 20 titles” were available that day and published the US lineup below. The list includes new releases, Switch 2 Edition games, a free-to-start game, a system tour, and a subscription-game catalog entry—not just newly developed games or standalone retail releases. Nintendo UK published a separate launch-day list, so availability and list categories differ by region.
Nintendo Switch 2 games available in the US at launch
Nintendo of America’s June 5, 2025 announcement lists these titles as available in stores or on Nintendo eShop. Its wording is “over 20 titles”; it does not give a precise count under a single definition. In particular, the GameCube app appears as one entry but names three games.

Nintendo UK’s June 2 preview called its “Also available on June 5th” section all the Switch 2 games available to play at launch. It listed these ten titles:

This is a regional list, not a correction to Nintendo’s US announcement. The UK article placed Switch 2 Edition releases and free updates in their own sections. Nintendo UK’s launch preview provides that breakdown.
What counts as a launch game?
Switch 2 Edition releases
A Switch 2 Edition is an edition of a game released for the new system; it should not be confused with a free update to an existing Switch version. The US list identifies several titles as Switch 2 Editions, including both Zelda games, No Man’s Sky, and Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. Nintendo UK separately identified The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition as arriving June 5.

Free updates to existing Switch games
Nintendo UK also listed free updates for Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and Super Mario Odyssey. These updates improve playability on Switch 2, but Nintendo classified them separately from new Switch 2 games.
GameCube classics in a subscription catalog
The US announcement groups F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and SOULCALIBUR II under the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics app. Nintendo UK says the classics are accessed through that app within Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. They were playable at launch as catalog games, not three newly launched standalone Switch 2 retail products. See Nintendo UK’s explanation of the classics app.

Were the launch games sold physically?
Nintendo’s US announcement says listed titles were available in stores or on Nintendo eShop, but that does not establish a physical edition for every game. Nintendo Singapore’s catalog labels physical versions and gives June 5, 2025 dates for examples including Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Hogwarts Legacy, and Sonic X Shadow Generations. That confirms physical Switch 2 software existed in that regional catalog, not that every launch title had a physical release or that those editions were available in every country. The catalog is at Nintendo Singapore’s Switch 2 game listings.
Launch date and historical US system prices
The console launched on June 5, 2025. Nintendo announced a US suggested retail price of $449.99 for the system and a launch-day Switch 2 plus Mario Kart World bundle at a US suggested retail price of $499.99. These are historical US launch prices, not current prices or prices for other regions. Details appear in Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 launch announcement.
