What the official reveal trailer showed
The overview trailer presents Nintendo Switch 2 as a new iteration of Nintendo’s hybrid console design. Its clearest visual change is a larger screen, accompanied by redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers that connect to the console magnetically. Nintendo’s trailer description also notes that the controllers can function as a mouse in compatible games.

The video frames the platform around two kinds of software: games made for Nintendo Switch 2 and compatible games from the original Nintendo Switch library. That is a broad compatibility message, not a guarantee that every Switch game works; check Nintendo’s title-specific compatibility information before relying on a particular game.

What the trailer does—and does not—tell you
The trailer is useful for understanding the console’s design direction and Nintendo’s high-level software-compatibility message. It does not establish that all original Switch games or accessories are compatible, nor does its reveal establish launch pricing or the release date; Nintendo supplied those commercial details in its later April 2 launch announcement.

For historical context, Nintendo reported that Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units worldwide during the first four days after its June 5, 2025 release. That is Nintendo’s company-reported figure, published June 11, and refers specifically to those first four days rather than an independently audited market estimate.
