Walmart, Best Buy and Target were reported to begin online orders at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time—9:00 p.m. Pacific Time on April 23—while GameStop’s online opening was reported for 11:00 a.m. Eastern. Nintendo of America announced that U.S. retail preorders would begin April 24, 2025. The U.S. launch followed on June 5, 2025.

What the times mean in other U.S. time zones
- Eastern: midnight for Walmart, Best Buy and Target; 11:00 a.m. for GameStop.
- Central: 11:00 p.m. on April 23 for the three midnight retailers; 10:00 a.m. on April 24 for GameStop.
- Mountain: 10:00 p.m. on April 23 for the three midnight retailers; 9:00 a.m. on April 24 for GameStop.
- Pacific: 9:00 p.m. on April 23 for the three midnight retailers; 8:00 a.m. on April 24 for GameStop.
- Alaska and Hawaii: convert from Eastern Time rather than assuming a retailer will use local midnight; retailer systems can apply their own regional rules.
Canada
Canadian retailers used the April 24, 2025 preorder date. Walmart Canada was reported to open online orders at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The available reporting established the date for other Canadian retailers but did not provide a complete, source-backed list of their exact opening times.
United Kingdom
Nintendo and selected UK retailers began Switch 2 preorders on April 8, 2025. A complete retailer-by-retailer UK clock-time schedule was not established, so there is no reliable single time to apply to every UK store.

Online versus in-store timing
The retailer times above describe reported online openings. GameStop’s in-store ordering depended on each store’s opening hours. Best Buy and Target also communicated separate store availability plans, so an online opening time should not be treated as a promise that every location had stock.

Pickup and delivery
Whether an order offered launch-day pickup, shipping, or a later delivery date depended on the retailer, location and inventory. No historical opening time guarantees a delivery date or present-day stock.
Nintendo Store payment and shipping rules
Nintendo support guidance distinguishes physical Nintendo Store purchases from eShop preorders: physical Nintendo Store pre-purchases are charged immediately and ship one to three business days after release, while eShop digital preorders follow a different payment rule. Check the applicable checkout terms before placing an order.

Can you still preorder a Switch 2?
No launch-window preorder can be placed now because the April 2025 preorder period and June 5, 2025 launch have passed. A Nintendo Switch 2 console, the Mario Kart World bundle, or accessories such as the Pro Controller and Joy-Con 2 pair may still be sold through Nintendo and retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart, but inventory, prices, promotions and delivery dates must be checked live.
