Is the Nintendo Switch 2 sold out in Japan?
There is no verified, market-wide answer about current Japanese inventory. The headline reflected the 2025 launch period: Nintendo’s preorder lottery drew about 2.2 million applications, according to the Associated Press’s June 5, 2025 report. Some retailers also held their own lotteries. These were separate application routes, not a confirmed count of available consoles or buyers who ultimately purchased one. Nintendo’s later figure of more than 3.5 million Switch 2 units sold in the first four days after launch was worldwide, not Japan-only. How could I preorder a Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan?
For the original Japan-only system
Nintendo announced the Japanese-Language System for release on June 5, 2025, at ¥49,980 including tax. That is historical launch pricing, not a current offer. The original preorder period was shaped by lottery applications, including Nintendo’s and separate retailer lotteries reported by AP. For the November 2026 bundle
- Check Nintendo Store’s current reservation page for the Japan-only choose-your-game bundle. Nintendo’s October 6, 2026 announcement says reservations are being accepted there; it does not establish that a reservation will remain available at all times. Nintendo’s bundle announcement
- If you prefer another seller, check Japanese game retailers and online shops directly. Nintendo said they were expected to begin reservations as they were ready, but it did not name participating sellers or confirm their current availability.
- Before placing an order, confirm the seller’s reservation window, eligibility rules, delivery timing, cancellation terms, and that the listing is for the Japan-only Japanese-Language System. The announcement does not specify those seller-by-seller conditions.
- Choose one of the bundle’s three games and check the download-code conditions: the code expires March 31, 2027, and requires a Nintendo Account and internet access.
Where can I buy a Japan-only Switch 2 now?
The confirmed current route in Nintendo’s October 6, 2026 announcement is reservation through Nintendo Store for the November 12 bundle. Nintendo also said Japanese game retailers and online shops were expected to start reservations as they were ready. That announcement confirms the offer and intended reservation channels, not live stock or a guaranteed purchase from any specific seller. Check the seller’s own listing for current status.
Keep model and listing details distinct when comparing offers: the bundle is a Japan-only system with a chosen digital game, while other Switch 2 listings may be for a different regional model. An individual marketplace listing is not Nintendo Store inventory; verify the model, seller, price, and terms before buying.
