The increase is $50. Nintendo’s notice says the change reflects “various changes in market conditions,” which the company expects to continue over the medium to long term. The notice does not name tariffs as the specific cause.
Did Nintendo raise the price because of tariffs?
Nintendo has not specifically said tariffs caused the September U.S. price revision. Its stated reason was changing market conditions, so attributing that particular increase to tariffs would go beyond the company’s announcement.

There is relevant broader context. In a January 13, 2026 report, Tom’s Guide quoted Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa discussing the company’s general approach: “While it’s difficult to accurately gauge the future impact, our basic policy is to recognize tariffs as a cost and pass them on to prices as much as possible, not just in the US,” he said. Furukawa also noted that hardware adoption is a crucial concern during a new console’s lifecycle. Those comments describe a general policy and concern; they do not identify the cause of the later price revision or promise another hike.

In the United States, Nintendo says sales tax depends on local law. California buyers may also see a covered battery-embedded waste recycling fee on listed products including Switch 2. Nintendo Support says this fee began January 1, 2026, and is 1.5% of the retail sale price, capped at $15 per product. It is specific to California and should not be generalized to other states.
Optional storage note
Nintendo lists 256 GB of internal storage for Switch 2 and supports microSD Express cards for additional storage. A card is optional, not part of the announced price change; ordinary microSD cards are not an equivalent format. Nintendo’s Switch 2 product information describes the console, while its microSD Express support page covers compatible expansion storage.
