Nintendo later set the U.S. launch MSRP at $449.99, then raised U.S. MSRP to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. U.S. prices exclude tax.
Was the €364.99 Switch 2 pre-order price a real leak?
On January 23, 2025, ComicBook.com reported that Italian retailer GamesandMovies.it had listed Switch 2 pre-orders at €364.99. That establishes that the retailer displayed the figure; it does not establish that Nintendo had set that price. The report said it was unclear whether the listing reflected nonpublic information or the retailer’s own decision, and raised attention-getting pricing as a possibility. ComicBook.com’s contemporaneous report did not confirm the retailer’s reasoning.

The listing was in euros and came from an Italian retailer. It should not be treated as a U.S. MSRP or converted into one: the two figures differ by territory, currency, source and price type.

On April 18, Nintendo said U.S. retail pre-orders would begin April 24 and that the announced system and bundle launch prices remained unchanged. Accessory prices, by contrast, would be adjusted from their April 2 announcements because of market conditions. Why is the U.S. price now higher?
Nintendo announced on May 8, 2026 that U.S. MSRP for the Switch 2 system would increase from $449.99 to $499.99 starting September 1, 2026. Nintendo attributed the adjustment to market conditions it expected to extend over the medium to long term. The $499.99 figure is the U.S. MSRP, excludes tax, and is not a guarantee of every retailer’s live price. Nintendo’s announcement is available at Nintendo of America.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in the company’s FY2025 financial results briefing that hardware pricing considers manufacturing cost, consumer price impressions, exchange-rate differences compared with the original Switch launch, and market conditions in each region. That statement describes Nintendo’s general pricing considerations; it does not explain why GamesandMovies.it listed the earlier figure. Nintendo’s May 9, 2025 briefing contains the remarks.

How to read the old listing if you are shopping now
- Use Nintendo’s dated U.S. MSRP for the system as the official price reference, not the January 2025 Italian retailer listing.
- Compare any retailer’s current price and stock with the U.S. MSRP, and check whether tax is included; U.S. MSRP excludes tax.
- Do not assume the U.S. figure applies in other countries. Nintendo’s regional prices use local currencies and may have different tax treatment; its May 8, 2026 regional price revision notice provides the company’s pricing schedule and tax-basis note.
