No: U.S. Switch 2 preorders did not open right after Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 Direct. Nintendo later postponed the planned April 9 U.S. preorder start, and retailers began taking U.S. preorders just after midnight on April 24. The console’s June 5 launch date did not change.
When did Switch 2 preorders start?
Nintendo held its Switch 2-focused Direct on April 2, 2025, and announced the console would launch June 5. The Direct date is listed in Nintendo’s official Direct archive; the launch date is recorded in Nintendo’s May 2025 investor presentation.

For U.S. buyers, the immediate post-Direct preorder expectation did not come true. Nintendo told Tom’s Hardware on April 4 that preorders would not begin April 9, while it assessed tariff impacts and market conditions. The company said the June 5 launch remained unchanged. The report quoted Nintendo’s statement.
The Associated Press later reported that U.S. retailer preorders began just after midnight on April 24. Its coverage described heavy demand, retailer site problems and quick sellouts at some stores.

Was the “trusted source” leak accurate?
The headline’s claim should be treated as a historical rumor, not a confirmed insider report. The available reporting does not establish who the “trusted source” was or verify the exact original wording. There were separate reports around the Direct of a possible April 2 preorder start and an April 9 retailer plan, but neither makes the headline’s attribution independently confirmed.
The outcome is clear for U.S. buyers: preorders did not go live immediately after the Direct, and the expected April 9 start was delayed. Retailer preorders ultimately opened April 24. The delay concerned U.S. preorder timing; it did not move the announced June 5 launch.

Are Switch 2 preorders still upcoming?
No. Switch 2 launched in 2025, so this is not a current preorder alert. If you are looking to buy the console now, check a retailer’s live listing for current stock, price, purchase limits and delivery details; those can change.
