Nintendo attributed the increase to broad market-condition changes, not specifically to China tariffs. Official tariff materials establish a framework for China-related duties, but do not show whether a particular Switch 2 shipment currently incurs them.
What is the Nintendo Switch 2 price now?
Nintendo of America announced on May 7, 2026, that the U.S. MSRP for the Switch 2 system would increase from $449.99 to $499.99 beginning September 1, 2026. That is Nintendo’s suggested retail price for the console, not a guarantee that every retailer’s price or stock will match it.

Nintendo’s original U.S. launch announcement listed a $449.99 suggested retail price and a June 5, 2025 launch date. That earlier figure is historical; the later announced MSRP is $499.99.
Did Nintendo say China tariffs caused the increase?
No. Nintendo said the change was “in response to various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term.” Its notice did not identify China tariffs as the cause, and the official materials cited here do not connect the $50 MSRP increase specifically to tariffs.

Do China tariffs still apply to the Switch 2?
U.S. Trade Representative materials describe China-related Section 301 tariff actions and an exclusions process. That establishes a tariff framework, but it does not settle the duty treatment of a particular Switch 2 console or import entry. The U.S. International Trade Commission points to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), where classification and revisions matter.
To determine the treatment of a specific shipment, the relevant details include the console’s tariff classification, country of origin, date of entry and whether an applicable exclusion applies. The official references cited here do not establish a current duty rate for an individual Switch 2 unit. So it would be too broad to say, based on these sources alone, that China tariffs definitely apply to every Switch 2 or that they explain Nintendo’s price increase.
