What did Bloomberg report about Switch 2 production?
Bloomberg’s March 24, 2026 report said Nintendo planned to make 4 million Switch 2 consoles in the quarter, down from a previously planned 6 million. It also said the reduced production pace was expected to continue in April. Bloomberg attributed the plan and its explanation to unnamed sources familiar with the matter: demand during the year-end holiday season had been weaker than Nintendo expected, especially in the United States. That makes this an attributed report, not a confirmed Nintendo announcement. The available evidence does not establish whether Nintendo later confirmed or denied the specific 6-million-to-4-million plan.
What do Nintendo’s later sales results show?
In results published August 6, 2026, Nintendo reported 3.82 million Switch 2 hardware units for April through June 2026, its first quarter of FY2027. These figures provide later context, but they do not verify Bloomberg’s reported manufacturing target. The measures are different: production counts units made; Nintendo’s group sales to outside entities are a sell-in measure; and sell-through counts purchases by consumers. The 16.5 million figure is a forecast, not a completed sales total or a production plan.
How did Nintendo characterize demand?
Nintendo said first-quarter Switch 2 sales were below the year-ago launch quarter, but characterized the console’s second-year adoption as favorable compared with the original Switch’s adoption trajectory. The year-over-year decline needs the launch baseline in view: April–June 2025 included the Switch 2 launch, while April–June 2026 was the system’s second year. A lower comparison against that launch quarter does not, by itself, establish that the console sold poorly in absolute terms.
Does the earlier shortage report mean Switch 2 is scarce now?
No current shortage follows from the production report alone. In an August 1, 2025 investor presentation, Nintendo said consumer demand exceeded supply in many countries during the launch period and that it would strengthen production and supply. Nintendo also said global sell-through topped 6 million units in the first seven weeks after launch. Those statements describe 2025, not current availability in 2026. What does Nintendo’s Japan bundle announcement tell us?
Nintendo announced on October 6, 2026, a Japanese-language, domestic-only Switch 2 bundle planned for release in Japan on November 12.
