Do not peel off the film already attached to your Nintendo Switch 2 screen. It is a factory antiscattering film, and Nintendo says to leave it in place. If you want added scratch or dirt protection, you can put a separate, Switch 2-compatible screen protector over it. Nintendo’s warning is a practical care caution—not a claim that ordinary use will inevitably damage the display.
What is the film on the Switch 2 screen?
The thin layer fitted to the display is a factory antiscattering film. Nintendo says it helps prevent pieces from scattering if the screen breaks and instructs owners not to remove it. Leave it attached, even if you plan to use another protector.
A separate screen protector is optional and, if used, goes over the factory film. Nintendo says protectors made for the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED Model, or Nintendo Switch Lite do not fit Switch 2. Choose packaging that explicitly identifies Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility. Nintendo says officially licensed products have been evaluated for compatibility and quality; that does not mean every third-party protector has been tested or endorsed. What can damage the display?
Nintendo warns that sharp objects or pressure may damage the screen. Avoid pressing hard on it or letting sharp items contact it. Nintendo also advises against leaving the console in direct sunlight for extended periods and warns against extreme temperatures: at low temperatures the display may respond more slowly or may not work, while high temperatures may deteriorate the screen. Reduce the risk of image retention
Nintendo recommends keeping the system’s default sleep settings enabled and avoiding the same image on screen for extended periods to minimize the risk of image retention or burn-in. This is a precaution, not a statement that burn-in is inevitable.
How should you clean the screen?
For ordinary screen care, Nintendo recommends a soft, clean cloth, such as a lens- or eyeglass-cleaning cloth. If you are troubleshooting touch input, follow the more specific screen-cleaning instructions: power off the console, remove any screen protector for the test, and wipe the screen with a soft, dry, clean cotton cloth. Nintendo’s general cleaning guidance for the console is different from its stricter screen-troubleshooting instructions. For general cleaning, switch the console off and unplug accessories first; use a soft, clean cloth dampened with water and wrung out. Never pour liquid directly onto the console or submerge it, and let it dry completely before use. (Nintendo Support: cleaning Nintendo products)
What if touch or brightness problems continue?
Touch input is not responding
- Power off the console and remove any screen protector for the test.
- Clean the screen with a soft, dry, clean cotton cloth; do not use solvents or cleaners.
- Restart the console and test the touch screen.
- If touch still does not work, Nintendo says the console needs repair. Use Nintendo’s touch-screen troubleshooting and repair guidance.
The display is unusually dark or bright
Nintendo recommends checking for a system update, checking automatic brightness, and making sure the brightness sensor is clean and unobstructed. If manual brightness adjustment still does not resolve the problem, Nintendo says the console needs repair. Follow its brightness troubleshooting guidance rather than attempting a screen repair yourself.

How to choose an optional protector
- Check the fit: the packaging should specifically say it is for Nintendo Switch 2. Older Switch-family protectors are not compatible.
- Check licensing if that matters to you: Nintendo says officially licensed products have been evaluated by Nintendo for compatibility and quality. Do not assume an unlicensed product has received that evaluation.
- Keep the factory film in place: the optional protector is applied over it, not instead of it.
For protectors included with select Switch 2 carrying cases, Nintendo’s instructions say to clean fingerprints, dust, and dirt with the included cloth, align the protector with the screen frame, and gently push bubbles out with a cloth.
