No, YouTube is not currently available as an official, working app on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo says the existing Nintendo Switch YouTube app is incompatible with Switch 2, while YouTube has said it is working with Nintendo to make the service available “soon.” That wording is not a release date, and no public launch date is confirmed in the available official statements.
Does Nintendo Switch 2 have YouTube?
Not at present. The YouTube app made for the original Nintendo Switch is not compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s support page explicitly separates the existing Switch app from Switch 2 support, and Nintendo Japan says YouTube currently cannot be used on the newer console.

That means there is no officially documented Switch 2 YouTube app that owners can download and use today. An app icon appearing after a system or user-data transfer does not change that compatibility status.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
What happens if you transfer or reinstall the old app?
The old app may appear in transferred software or seem available for redownload, but that does not mean it supports Switch 2. Nintendo Japan says attempting to launch the Switch version can produce an “Unable to start” message.
- Reinstalling the original Switch app is not a fix.
- Transferring it to Switch 2 does not make it compatible.
- Updating the console is not documented as enabling YouTube.
- YouTube Premium or Nintendo Switch Online cannot unlock an unsupported app.
Switch 2 supports compatible Nintendo Switch software, but compatibility is conditional rather than universal. Nintendo’s broader compatibility guidance does not guarantee that every Switch game, app, or service will work.
Is a Switch 2 YouTube app confirmed?
Future support is confirmed as an intention, but not as a scheduled release. YouTube’s TeamYouTube account said it was working with Nintendo and hoped to make YouTube available on Switch 2 “soon.” Nintendo likewise says it is working with the software maker toward future support.
Neither statement confirms a release date, launch month, app version, feature list, or whether the final software will be a new native app or an update to the existing service. The original TeamYouTube statement is available on X; Nintendo’s support wording is available here.
What does “coming soon” mean?
In this case, “soon” has no defined public meaning. It should not be interpreted as confirmation that YouTube will launch this month, before the end of 2026, or on any other specific date.

The available evidence establishes that the companies intend to support Switch 2. It does not explain why the app was absent when the console launched on June 5, 2025. Compatibility work, testing, certification, account integration, or changes for the new hardware could all be possible factors, but Nintendo and YouTube have not publicly identified the reason in the cited statements. Calling the situation a confirmed “delay” would therefore go beyond the evidence.
Will YouTube Premium or Nintendo Switch Online help?
No. A subscription cannot make an incompatible app work on Switch 2.
On the original Switch, Nintendo says YouTube does not require a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. The existing app supports features such as account sign-in, subscriptions, search, purchased content, and device pairing in supported countries. Nintendo also says that the original app does not support downloads, background playback, or the console’s screen-capture function. Those details describe the original Switch app and do not predict what a future Switch 2 version will support. See Nintendo’s YouTube FAQ and Google’s YouTube help page.
YouTube availability on the original Switch also varies by country, so regional access should be checked separately.
Can you watch YouTube through a Switch 2 browser?
There is no supported general-purpose browser route established by the available evidence. Do not treat unofficial tricks, embedded-video workarounds, modified software, or exploits as equivalent to an official YouTube app.

If Switch 2 does not expose a supported browser or compatible app, there is no reliable Nintendo-approved way to turn the console into a YouTube player.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat can Switch 2 owners do now?
- Use another device. A phone, tablet, laptop, smart TV, or existing streaming device remains the simplest option. This is usually the most practical choice for travel or handheld-style viewing.
- Use an original Switch. If you already own a compatible original Switch, it can remain a Nintendo-branded YouTube device where the service is available in your region. Buying an older console solely for YouTube is difficult to justify when most households already have another supported screen.
- Use a streaming device for TV viewing. If your television lacks YouTube, official products from Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Apple TV are purpose-built alternatives. They do not provide YouTube on Switch 2 in handheld mode.
- Keep watching on mobile with Premium if useful. YouTube Premium can provide ad-free viewing and mobile downloads on supported devices, but it does not solve the Switch 2 compatibility problem. Visit YouTube Premium for current service details.
How will you know the app is really available?
A meaningful update should include at least one of these signs:
- A Nintendo eShop listing that identifies Switch 2 support.
- A Nintendo or YouTube announcement with a specific release date.
- A Nintendo support-page change removing the incompatibility warning.
- An app update or download that launches successfully on Switch 2.
Until then, “soon” remains a promise of intended support—not evidence that the app is finished, approved, or about to launch.
Sources and update status
This status reflects the cited Nintendo and YouTube statements available through August 16, 2026. Nintendo’s launch announcement confirms that Switch 2 released on June 5, 2025: Nintendo corporate release. Nintendo’s support pages remain the key references for compatibility and the behavior of the original app.
