Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe short version: Lenovo brought expandable storage back to its compact Legion Tab line, but the biometric headline needs qualification. The 2025 Legion Y700 Gen 4 restored a microSD slot, and Lenovo’s newer Legion Tab Gen 5 supports cards up to 2TB. Neither cited specification lists a fingerprint reader, although both generations list face unlock.
That makes the trade-off clearer: these are storage-friendly gaming tablets with camera-based convenience unlocking—not devices proven to offer secure face authentication for payments, banking, or password-manager approval.

Which Legion Tab is this?
Lenovo has reused the Legion Tab name across several generations, so “the new Legion Tab” can describe different hardware depending on the market and date.
| Model | Key storage detail | Authentication listed | Important context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original Legion Tab | 256GB internal storage; microSD up to 1TB | Face unlock | Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 |
| Legion Tab Gen 3 | 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.0; no card reader | Face unlock | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 |
| Legion Tab Gen 4/Y700 Gen 4 | 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.1; microSD restored | Face unlock; no fingerprint sensor specified | Launched in China on May 8, 2025 |
| Legion Tab Gen 5 | 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.1 Pro; microSD up to 2TB | Face unlock; no fingerprint reader listed | Listed by Lenovo US with Android 16 or later |
The original report concerned the Legion Y700 Gen 4 launched in China. Lenovo now also has a US product page for the Legion Tab Gen 5. Those should not be treated as the same model: their processors, batteries, operating systems, and displays differ.

MicroSD is back—and that matters for gaming tablets
The Gen 3 specification listed no card reader. Later Legion Tab specifications restore a dedicated microSD slot, with the Gen 5 documentation specifying support for cards up to 2TB. That is especially useful on an 8.8-inch gaming tablet, where owners may keep large local libraries of games, video, music, comics, screenshots, screen recordings, and legally owned game backups.
Removable storage can also make the lower internal-storage configuration more practical. A card is a convenient place for archives, captures, downloads, and games played less frequently, without immediately paying for a larger internal-storage tier.
It is not, however, a replacement for the tablet’s faster internal storage. Android applications may not fully move to removable storage, and individual games decide where their core assets, updates, caches, and texture data live. Loading behavior will vary by title and firmware. A 2TB card does not turn the tablet into a 2TB internal gaming drive.
For the best balance, keep frequently played and performance-sensitive games on internal UFS storage. Use microSD for media, recordings, archives, ROM files, downloads, and overflow content.

Before filling a card
- Use a reputable card from a known manufacturer; choose an A2-rated card where app use is relevant.
- Consider high-endurance storage if you record gameplay frequently.
- Confirm whether Android offers portable or adoptable storage on your particular regional firmware.
- Do not remove a card adopted as internal storage without first migrating data or resetting the device.
- Leave free space on both the tablet and card for updates and caching.
- Back up important captures, photos, and save data. Removable cards can fail.
Does the Legion Tab have biometrics?
“No biometrics” is too absolute. Lenovo’s specifications list face unlock on the relevant Legion Tab generations. What they do not establish is the presence of secure, hardware-backed face authentication comparable to a fingerprint reader or a depth-sensing 3D face-recognition system.
The precise description is therefore: the Legion Tab omits a specified fingerprint sensor and appears to rely on basic camera-based face unlock. Buyers should not assume that this face-unlock implementation will satisfy every Android security requirement or work for payment and password-manager authentication.
When face unlock fails—because of darkness, an awkward viewing angle, or a covered front camera—the fallback is a PIN, pattern, or password. Device credentials may also be required after a restart, certain security events, or repeated failed attempts. A strong PIN remains important, and disabling the secure lock screen is not a sensible workaround.
Whether banking, payment, or password-manager apps accept face unlock depends on the Android build, the app, and the device’s security classification. Lenovo’s specification listing alone is not enough to promise fingerprint-like app compatibility.

Gen 4/Y700 Gen 4 specifications
The China-launched Gen 4 model reported in 2025 included:
- 8.8-inch LCD display
- Snapdragon 8 Elite platform
- 7,600mAh battery
- 68W charging
- Android 15 at launch
- 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.1 storage
- 12GB or 16GB RAM
- 50MP rear camera and 8MP front camera
- microSD expansion
Its original availability was China-focused, with imported units sold through retailers. Import buyers need to check the exact model, regional software, update policy, network compatibility, and warranty rather than assuming that an imported Y700 has the same support as an official local Legion Tab.

Who is the Legion Tab a good fit for?
The Legion Tab makes the most sense for Android gamers and emulation users who specifically want a compact 8.8-inch form factor, flagship-level performance, and room for a large local library. The microSD return is valuable for people who store substantial media collections or record gameplay.
It is a less obvious choice if fingerprint authentication is essential, if the tablet will be used heavily for banking or password-manager workflows, or if you expect every game to run from removable storage exactly like it does from internal UFS. Buyers seeking a larger productivity canvas may also prefer an 11-inch tablet.
Verdict
Lenovo’s storage decision is good news for compact gaming-tablet buyers: the later Legion Tab generations restore a feature the Gen 3 dropped, and the Gen 5’s stated 2TB limit gives owners useful headroom for media and game overflow.
The security headline needs more precision. Lenovo does not list a fingerprint sensor, but it does list face unlock. Treat that as a convenience feature unless your exact model and firmware prove otherwise—not as confirmed secure biometric authentication. The Legion Tab is therefore a strong niche option for performance and expandable storage, with a PIN-first authentication trade-off.
