When did Switch 2 preorders start in the U.S.?
Nintendo of America announced on April 18, 2025, that U.S. retail preorders would begin April 24. That April 18 announcement is the source for the final date. Nintendo’s April 2 corporate release announced that Switch 2 would launch June 5, 2025; April 2 was not the U.S. retail preorder date. Nintendo of America’s April 18 announcement and Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s April 2 release establish the sequence.

What were the U.S. launch prices?
Nintendo’s April 18, 2025 announcement said the console and bundle prices would remain as announced April 2. These are Nintendo’s U.S. launch suggested retail prices, not current retailer prices.

Nintendo said accessory prices were adjusted from those announced April 2 because of changes in market conditions, and that prices of other Nintendo products could be adjusted in the future for the same reason. It explicitly said the console and bundle prices remained at $449.99 and $499.99. Nintendo’s April 18 price announcement lists these launch MSRPs.

What happened at retailers on preorder day?
Retailer timing and inventory were not necessarily the same everywhere. Target said its Switch 2 preorders went live on Target.com April 24 and sold out in less than two hours. For its June 5 launch, Target described limited inventory, in-store tickets and a one-item-per-product-per-guest limit; it said the console and bundle would be available in stores June 5 and through its app and website June 6, while supplies lasted. These details describe Target’s 2025 launch, not other retailers or current policies. Target’s May 29, 2025 announcement provides its account.
Does Nintendo’s preorder payment policy apply to console orders?
Nintendo Support describes separate payment timing for digital game preorders and physical products prepurchased through Nintendo Store. A digital game preorder is charged in full seven days before release; a physical prepurchase is charged in full immediately and ships one to three business days after release. Those instructions do not establish the payment terms that outside retailers used for Switch 2 console orders. Nintendo Support’s preorder and prepurchase guidance explains the distinction.

The 2025 preorder and launch announcements cannot confirm today’s stock or selling price. Check a retailer’s current listing for in-stock status, price, delivery or pickup options, and exactly what a bundle includes before buying; availability and prices can change.
