Yes. Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2 controllers attach to the console magnetically. They hold firmly during normal handheld play and release when you press the button on the back. How do Joy-Con 2 attach to Switch 2?
Nintendo’s product announcement says to “Snap the Joy-Con 2 controllers onto the system with magnetic connectors.” Nintendo also says the controllers attach firmly for handheld play and can be detached by pressing the release button on the back. The company has not published an attachment-force measurement or independent durability testing.

Why did Nintendo switch from rails to magnets?
Nintendo developer Takuhiro Kawamoto said the company considered magnetic attachment while developing the original Switch. Its prototypes wobbled because the connection was weak, so Nintendo used sliding rails instead. The Switch 2 design revisits the magnetic idea with a later implementation. In the same developer interview, Kawamoto explained that the mouse-control idea emerged while playing a PC game and considering additional ways to play.

Can you use original Switch Joy-Con on Switch 2?
Yes, original Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but they do not attach to the console. Joy-Con 2, by contrast, cannot be used with the original Nintendo Switch. Nintendo says Joy-Con 2 are larger and use a different attachment method than original Joy-Con.

What else can Joy-Con 2 do as a mouse?
Either Joy-Con 2 can function as a mouse in compatible games. Nintendo describes this as a way to offer pointer-style control, including in TV mode, where the console touchscreen is unavailable. A desk, table, or similar flat surface can be used, but responsiveness may vary by surface or fabric. Nintendo also warns that rubbing a controller on fabric may cause color fading. Mouse functionality is game-dependent; it does not mean every game supports mouse controls.
