Nintendo announced that US retailer preorders for Nintendo Switch 2 would begin April 24, 2025, with the console priced at $449.99 and the Mario Kart World bundle at $499.99 at launch. The console launched June 5, 2025. Those launch prices are historical: Nintendo’s revised US system MSRP became $499.99 on September 1, 2026, and its US store lists the system at that price.
When did Nintendo Switch 2 preorders start in the US?
Nintendo announced on April 18, 2025, that retail preorders in the United States would begin April 24, 2025. The date replaced the initially anticipated April 9 start; Nintendo apologized for the delay in its announcement.

That preorder window is in the past. Nintendo set the console’s release date as June 5, 2025, in its April 2, 2025 announcement.
What were the US launch prices?
Nintendo’s April 18, 2025 notice kept the announced launch prices unchanged. The bundle included the console and a digital download code for Mario Kart World.

The bundle cost $50 more than the standalone system at launch. Nintendo also said the launch prices for Mario Kart World ($79.99, physical or digital) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) would remain unchanged in that notice; these are announcement-era prices, not a statement of current offers. Nintendo said accessory prices would be adjusted from those first announced in April 2025, so those earlier figures should not be treated as current.

The $449.99 figure refers to the standalone system’s announced 2025 launch MSRP, not its current US MSRP. The $499.99 bundle price likewise describes the 2025 launch offer and should not be assumed to reflect a current bundle or its availability.

What to know before buying
- Game compatibility: Nintendo Switch 2 supports compatible original Nintendo Switch games, but limitations vary by title. Check Nintendo’s compatibility information for a particular game.
- Storage expansion: Switch 2 is designed for microSD Express cards. Ordinary microSD cards can only be used to view screenshots and videos captured on the original Switch; they do not expand Switch 2 game storage. See Nintendo’s microSD Express guidance.
