Yes. Nintendo’s worldwide cumulative hardware-sales table puts Nintendo Switch ahead of Nintendo DS by 2.57 million units. Through June 30, 2026, Nintendo lists 156.59 million Switch units and 154.02 million DS units, making Switch the company’s best-selling console by its published lifetime unit measure.
How many Switch and DS units has Nintendo sold?
Nintendo’s worldwide hardware-sales table reports consolidated lifetime sales in units. Through June 30, 2026, its totals are:
| Console | Worldwide cumulative hardware sales through June 30, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | 156.59 million units |
| Nintendo DS | 154.02 million units |
The 2.57 million-unit lead is calculated by subtracting Nintendo’s DS total from its Switch total; it is not a separate figure reported by Nintendo. These are worldwide sales totals, not U.S.-only figures, active-user counts, or estimates of how many consoles remain in use.
What the record says—and what it does not
The comparison establishes a milestone on Nintendo’s reported cumulative hardware-sales measure. It does not show which system sold faster over comparable periods, which was more profitable, or how many people currently own or use either console. Those are different questions from the lifetime unit ranking.

Is the Switch still selling after Switch 2 launched?
Yes. Nintendo reported 3.80 million Switch hardware units sold during its fiscal year ended March 31, 2026 (April 2025 through March 2026). In its FY2026 results, the company said Switch had entered its tenth year since launch and continued to see demand. That annual figure provides recent context, but it is not a like-for-like lifecycle comparison with DS.
Nintendo president and representative director Shuntaro Furukawa offered the company’s explanation of factors supporting Switch 2 adoption in the financial-results Q&A dated May 8, 2026: “This performance was supported by a variety of overlapping factors, including the fact that Nintendo Switch 2 launched while many people are still having fun playing Nintendo Switch, and the ability of Nintendo Switch 2 to play Nintendo Switch software helped make transition easier.” The comment describes Nintendo’s view of the transition between systems; it does not quantify why Switch reached its lifetime sales total.

How do Switch games fit into the picture?
Nintendo’s Switch software sales table lists Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 71.53 million units and Animal Crossing: New Horizons at 50.29 million units through June 30, 2026. Nintendo says software totals include bundled and downloadable versions, so these figures are not counts of physical copies alone.
