Nintendo’s sales table puts Switch at 156.59 million hardware units worldwide as of June 30, 2026, ahead of Nintendo DS at 154.02 million. That is a 2.57 million-unit lead calculated from Nintendo’s published figures. Nintendo’s fiscal 2026 third-quarter briefing separately said Switch cumulative sell-in had passed DS, describing it as the company’s highest-selling hardware platform.
How Switch moved ahead of Nintendo DS
Nintendo’s worldwide consolidated sales table reports 156.59 million Switch hardware units and 154.02 million Nintendo DS hardware units as of June 30, 2026. Subtracting the two figures gives Switch a lead of 2.57 million units. That margin is a calculation from Nintendo’s numbers, not a separately reported company statistic.
The figures describe cumulative hardware sales. Nintendo’s fiscal 2026 Q3 financial-results presentation uses a different label: it says Switch cumulative sell-in passed DS through the third quarter and calls Switch the highest-selling Nintendo hardware platform. The sales table and presentation support the same milestone, but their metrics should not be treated as identical: one reports worldwide consolidated sales at a dated cutoff, while the other uses the term “sell-in.”
What “best-selling system” means here
This is a record among Nintendo hardware platforms, not a claim that Switch has outsold every console from every manufacturer. It also concerns hardware units only. Nintendo reports software sales separately, so game copies should not be added to console totals.

Switch hardware sales are still being reported
Nintendo reported 3.80 million Switch hardware units sold during fiscal 2026, the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. The company also said demand continued as Switch entered its tenth year since launch in March. That is a description of the period, not a forecast of future sales.
Software milestones are a separate measure
Nintendo lists Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 71.53 million software units as of June 30, 2026. Nintendo’s software sales information says its software totals include copies bundled with hardware as well as downloadable versions. The figure therefore should not be read as physical copies sold, and it does not explain or establish what caused the Switch hardware record.
