Yes. Nintendo’s worldwide lifetime hardware-sales table puts Nintendo Switch at 156.59 million units, ahead of Nintendo DS at 154.02 million, as of June 30, 2026. That is a lead of 2.57 million units, calculated from Nintendo’s published totals. The comparison is about hardware units sold, not revenue or the number of people who own a system.
How Switch compares with Nintendo’s other best-selling systems
Nintendo describes the figures as worldwide consolidated hardware sales in units, life-to-date. Its table gives these totals through June 30, 2026:
| Nintendo system | Worldwide lifetime hardware sales |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | 156.59 million |
| Nintendo DS | 154.02 million |
| Game Boy | 118.69 million |
| Wii | 101.63 million |
Source for each total: Nintendo’s hardware and software sales table, with sales through June 30, 2026. Switch leads DS by 2.57 million units, a difference calculated from the two reported totals rather than a separate Nintendo statistic.
Has Nintendo Switch outsold Nintendo DS?
Yes. On Nintendo’s reported worldwide lifetime hardware-units measure, Switch is ahead of DS in the table through June 30, 2026. The result is specific to Nintendo’s reported totals; it does not rank every console maker, compare revenue, or count unique owners.

Is Switch still selling?
Nintendo reported 3.80 million Switch hardware units sold during its fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. In its operating-results description, the company said this demonstrated “a level of continued demand for the system, which entered its 10th year since launch in March.” This is a fiscal-year figure, not an addition to the lifetime total above, whose reporting cutoff is June 30, 2026. Hardware and game sales are different measures
Nintendo reports software separately from console hardware. Through June 30, 2026, its leading cited Switch software totals included 71.53 million units for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and 50.29 million for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. These game sales do not determine the console hardware ranking. Nintendo’s hardware and software sales table.

What the record does—and does not—show
The official figures establish that Switch has passed DS on Nintendo’s worldwide lifetime hardware-units measure at the stated cutoff. They do not establish why the system achieved that result. Nintendo’s cited reporting describes continued demand but does not attribute the record to a particular design choice, price, game, or market condition. Nor should hardware units be treated as a count of individual buyers, owners, or households.
