What is Hello, Mario!?
Hello, Mario! is an interactive character experience in Nintendo’s broader My Mario series. Its main attraction is Mario’s animated face: children can touch it, stretch it, pull it, or spin it and watch him react with different expressions.

Is it a normal Mario game?
No. There is no traditional adventure or campaign to complete. The design is built around immediate cause and effect: a child touches Mario, and Mario responds.
Nintendo has positioned the My Mario apps as “toy-like” experiences for very young children who may not yet be ready for traditional console games. Adults can play alongside a child, but the smart-device listing identifies the app as a one-player experience. In other words, it supports shared parent-child play rather than conventional multiplayer.
Who is it for?
Nintendo presents the app for young children, parents, and caregivers. The wider My Mario line specifically includes products for infants and toddlers, but Nintendo’s app descriptions do not establish a precise official age range such as “ages 0–3” or “ages 2–5.” “Young children and families” is therefore the most accurate description.

The app is interactive and designed for shared play, but Nintendo’s cited materials do not establish educational or developmental benefits. It should not be treated as a validated educational tool, and a PEGI rating does not determine whether a particular child is ready for screen use.
Platforms, price, and internet requirements
- Mobile: Apple App Store and Google Play.
- Console: Nintendo Switch via Nintendo eShop.
- Newer hardware: Playable on Nintendo Switch 2.
- Price: Free.
A Nintendo Switch is not required. Families can use the mobile version with a compatible phone or tablet. Nintendo says internet access is required to download the app, while the mobile version can be played offline after installation. Mobile data charges may apply during downloading or any activity that requires connectivity.
Nintendo’s original Japanese announcement listed iOS 15 or later and Android 6.0 or later. Because storefront requirements can change by region and over time, check the current Apple or Google listing before assuming an older device will work.

“Goodnight, Mario!” gives play a stopping point
After a period of play, Mario becomes tired and goes to sleep. While he is asleep, the child cannot continue interacting with him. Nintendo calls this “Goodnight, Mario!” and presents it as an opportunity to take a break.

Availability timeline
- August 8, 2025: Nintendo announced the project in Japan.
- August 26, 2025: The app launched in Japan.
- February 19, 2026: Nintendo released it in the United States and additional international markets.
Availability can vary by country. If the app does not appear in a local store, search for the official Nintendo listing and verify that the publisher is Nintendo Co., Ltd. rather than downloading an unrelated Mario-themed application. Nintendo’s support page directs users to the dedicated Hello, Mario! support site for smart-device help.

How Hello, Mario! fits into My Mario
The app is only one part of Nintendo’s My Mario initiative for young children and their parents. The announced lineup also includes:
- Mario wooden block sets.
- An interactive Hello, Mario! board book.
- Mario plush and other soft toys.
- Infant and toddler apparel.
- It’s Me, Mario! stop-motion shorts.
- TOMY bath toys and water squirters.
Nintendo says the broader line includes products developed with partners such as Mattel, Fisher-Price, and TOMY. Those physical products are separate purchases; the fact that the app is free does not make the entire My Mario collection free.

What parents should expect
Hello, Mario! has a low barrier to entry: it is free, does not require a Nintendo console, needs no complex controls or reading ability described by Nintendo, and can work offline after download. The familiar character may also make it appealing for a child who is not ready for a full game.

Its limitations are equally important. The experience may feel repetitive to older children, and Nintendo’s materials do not describe meaningful progression, challenge, or an educational structure. Families looking for a long solo activity may find that it is better suited to brief, shared interactions with an adult.
Parents should also apply their usual device-use judgment. A child-friendly content rating does not establish that the app is developmentally appropriate for every child, and the sleep feature is not a replacement for operating-system or console parental controls.
The bottom line
Hello, Mario! is best understood as a free digital Mario toy for young children—not as Nintendo’s next platform game. It makes sense for families who want a simple, character-led activity to explore together, especially because the mobile version works without a Switch and supports offline play after downloading. Families seeking substantial gameplay, educational structure, or a long-form adventure should look elsewhere.
