Nintendo announced the gold Zelda-themed handheld on June 18, 2024, and released it on September 26, 2024—the same day as The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. It is a special-edition Switch Lite, not a Switch OLED, Switch 2 model, or Zelda game bundle.
As of August 18, 2026, the launch date is in the past and availability varies by region and retailer.

Release date
The Hyrule Edition Switch Lite launched on Thursday, September 26, 2024. That was also the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which explains why some listings or headlines may make the products appear to be a single bundle.
The console itself did not include Echoes of Wisdom.
Price and regional differences
- Japan: Nintendo listed an MSRP of ¥22,980 including tax.
- United States: Nintendo sold the system with a 12-month individual Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Nintendo’s product page identifies the U.S. SKU as 121164, but a current direct-sale price is not shown on the captured page.
- Canada: Nintendo listed a C$274.99 suggested retail price for the console and membership during a 2024 holiday promotion. That is historical regional pricing, not a current 2026 price.
These figures should not be treated as interchangeable. Taxes, retailer prices, membership terms, and stock differ by country.
What comes in the package?
The U.S. package included:
- Nintendo Switch Lite: Hyrule Edition
- A 12-month individual Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership
No Zelda game was included. Buyers who want Echoes of Wisdom must purchase it separately. The included membership provides benefits such as online play, classic-game libraries for systems including NES, Super NES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis, and access to select downloadable content subject to Nintendo’s terms and ownership requirements. Nintendo also lists Game Voucher eligibility among the membership benefits.
The catalog and benefits can vary by region and change over time. The membership is not a permanent free subscription; buyers should also review renewal settings because the subscription may auto-renew after the initial 12-month period under applicable regional terms.

What games can it play?
The Hyrule Edition has the same fundamental compatibility limits as other Switch Lite systems. It supports physical and digital Nintendo Switch games that support Handheld mode.
Games designed around TV mode, detached Joy-Con controllers, or particular motion-control features may require separately purchased controllers, offer reduced functionality, or be unsuitable for the Lite’s integrated-control design. It is therefore inaccurate to say that every Switch game works identically on this system.
What it cannot do
- It does not provide the conventional docked-TV experience.
- Its built-in controls do not detach like Joy-Con controllers.
- It is not a Switch OLED model.
- It is not Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
- It does not include Echoes of Wisdom by default.
For players who primarily want portable Zelda gaming, these limitations may be acceptable. Anyone who regularly plays on a television or needs detachable controllers should consider a standard Switch-family system instead.
Availability in 2026
Stock is now likely to be retailer-dependent. Nintendo’s U.S. page still identifies the product and provides a “Find retailers” path, but it does not show a current direct-sale price or guaranteed stock status. A Best Buy listing checked on August 18, 2026 marked the product as unavailable.
That single listing does not prove Nintendo has permanently ended production or that every retailer is sold out. Check Nintendo’s retailer links and established stores, and distinguish clearly between new, used, refurbished, and marketplace listings.
Rank #3
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
Should you buy it?
It makes sense for:
- Zelda collectors who want an official themed console.
- Players who primarily use a Switch in handheld mode.
- Buyers who will use online play, classic-game libraries, eligible DLC, or other Expansion Pack benefits.
- Parents or first-time buyers who specifically prefer a compact handheld system.
Consider skipping it if:
- You need TV or tabletop play as a central feature.
- You already own a working Switch Lite and do not value the themed design.
- The listing price is substantially above comparable Switch Lite hardware and the membership’s value to you is low.
- You are buying it mainly because a seller claims it includes Zelda.
The main differences from a standard Switch Lite are the Hyrule cosmetics and, in the U.S. package, the 12-month Expansion Pack membership. It does not deliver additional performance.
Buying a used Hyrule Edition
Before paying a collector premium, verify that the listing is an official Hyrule Edition rather than a standard Switch Lite fitted with an aftermarket shell. Ask for clear photographs of the Triforce and Hylian Crest, and check the product identity and serial label.
Also confirm that the console powers on and charges, the analog sticks do not drift, and the screen has no serious scratches, dead pixels, or discoloration. Treat the original membership as uncertain unless the seller confirms that its code is unused and valid in your region. Used listings may contain a redeemed, expired, missing, or region-restricted code.
For protection, Nintendo lists the Nintendo Switch Travel Case: Glow—Sheikah Shoot among related accessories. A compatible screen protector and microSD card may also be practical purchases, particularly for digital games and downloadable content, but neither is specific to the Hyrule Edition.
