First, check the symptom and system requirements
Note when the crash happens: immediately after pressing Play, during a specific scene, or after some time in-game. Also note whether it happens every time and what changed just before it began. These details help distinguish a repeatable launch failure from a crash during play without assuming a cause.

Koei Tecmo’s article, “The game runs slow”, is about Steam PC troubleshooting generally. It does not confirm that any step below fixes Nioh 3 crashes. Make one change at a time and check whether the symptom changes.

1. Verify the game files in Steam
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right-click Nioh 3 and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to finish, then try launching the game again.
If verification finds or replaces files, note whether that changes the crash. A successful verification does not rule out other causes.
2. Select the high-performance GPU on a multi-GPU PC
If your PC has both integrated graphics and a separate graphics card, check that Windows assigns Nioh 3 to the high-performance GPU:
- Open Windows Settings and go to System > Display > Graphics.
- Add or select Nioh 3, open its options, and choose High performance if that option is available.
- Save the setting and test the game.
Koei Tecmo also describes per-game graphics selection through NVIDIA Control Panel for NVIDIA systems. Menu names can vary by driver version; use the game-specific setting if available rather than changing global graphics preferences.

3. Reduce startup load if the game exposes those settings
If Nioh 3 offers startup or graphics environment settings, try lowering them and launch again. This is a diagnostic to reduce system load, not evidence that a particular setting causes the crash. Do not invent or apply settings that are not offered by the game or its launcher.

For graphics, use the official driver source for the GPU installed in your PC. Koei Tecmo also suggests updating, rolling back, or reinstalling graphics drivers, and trying an updated sound driver. Change only drivers relevant to your hardware, and note the version and date so you can identify whether the change affected the problem.
Driver changes carry risk. Koei Tecmo cautions: “When you change settings and update drivers for hardware and peripherals, please do so at your own responsibility.”

5. Close background applications
Close nonessential applications, especially processes actively updating or installing software, then test the game. If that changes the result, reopen applications one at a time to see whether the behavior returns; do not assume that every background app is incompatible.
6. Use security-software changes only as a temporary test
Koei Tecmo suggests temporarily disabling security software or adding an exclusion for the game as a diagnostic. This reduces protection, so keep any change temporary, restore protection after the test, and follow your security provider’s instructions. Contact that provider for the safe procedure rather than guessing at settings.
7. Disconnect non-gameplay USB devices
Disconnect USB input devices that are not needed to play, then test again. If the crash stops, reconnect devices individually to identify whether the behavior returns. This can help isolate a peripheral; it does not prove that the device is defective.

8. Reinstall only after the earlier checks
If the preceding checks do not help, Koei Tecmo lists reinstalling the game as a later step. Reinstall through Steam, then test before adding other changes. Reinstallation is not a guaranteed fix and may not address a problem outside the game files.

The official Nioh 3 support index reviewed lists topics such as Steam save restoration and cutscene playback, but its displayed topics did not include crash-specific troubleshooting. That does not establish that no separate crash notice exists, and the index may change.
A community post titled “Nioh 3 Crashing on Launch” describes pressing Play, seeing the game activate briefly, and then close. The poster says updating drivers, verifying Steam files, and reinstalling had not changed the issue. This is one player’s report, not a verified diagnosis or evidence of how common the problem is. If you have already tried those steps, record that fact rather than repeating them without a reason.

Record what changes before contacting support
If the crash continues, report it to Koei Tecmo support with concise details that make the problem reproducible:
- Whether it crashes on launch or during play, and the point at which it closes.
- Whether the behavior happens every time and any steps that reliably trigger it.
- Your PC specifications, including CPU, GPU, memory, and Windows version.
- Which troubleshooting steps you tried and what happened after each one.
- Any relevant recent driver, game, or system changes.
A crash by itself does not establish that the graphics card is defective. The useful next step is to identify whether a repeatable change—such as selecting a different GPU or closing a particular process—affects the result, then share those observations with support.
