Which fix applies to you
Use this order:
- The error appeared after removing Spanish or changing Windows language settings: reinstall the Spanish language component first.
- Several Windows components or language files are failing: repair the component store with DISM, then run SFC.
- Windows Security recently quarantined the file: inspect Protection history before restoring anything.
- The problem began after an update, cleanup program, or installation: try System Restore.
- Only one old program reports the error: repair that program after repairing Windows.
- The file exists outside the Windows system directories: treat it as suspicious and scan the computer.
- You were considering a DLL download or
regsvr32: do neither. Neither approach repairs the Windows servicing problem that usually causes this error.
What nlslexicons000a.dll does
The filename belongs to Microsoft’s natural-language and search infrastructure. The 000a identifier is associated with Spanish, and Microsoft’s language-binary documentation identifies Spanish as LCID 3082 (es-ES) alongside related components such as NaturalLanguage6.dll and NlsData000a.dll.Microsoft’s language-binary documentation

#1 Best Overall
Do not assume that every current Windows 10 or Windows 11 build should contain this exact legacy filename. Newer Windows releases use updated language-pack and servicing models.Microsoft language overview
A program can report the error while Windows itself appears usable because the program may be calling an older Windows language API, using a damaged search component, or loading a dependency that Windows can no longer provide. No authoritative public source identifies one particular modern game or application as the unique trigger.
Fix 1: Reinstall Spanish through Windows
This is the safest first repair when the Spanish language pack was removed, partially installed, or damaged.
Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Select Language & region.
- Under Preferred languages, select Add a language.
- Search for Spanish.
- Select the Spanish variant you need, then select Next.
- Leave Language pack selected. Select Install.
- Restart Windows after installation completes.
- Open the affected program again.
If Spanish is already listed, select its three-dot menu and choose the available language-pack or language-options repair action. If Windows offers an update or reinstall prompt, allow it to complete.
Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Clock, Language, and Region.
- Select Language.
- Select Add a language.
- Choose Spanish.
- Open its Options and install the language pack if Windows offers it.
- Restart the computer.
Windows 7
On Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select System and Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Open Optional updates.
- Locate the Spanish language pack under Windows 7 language packs.
- Install it and restart.
Microsoft distributed Windows 7 language packs through Windows Update rather than as ordinary Download Center files.Microsoft Windows 7 language-pack guidance
After restarting, test the program. If the error remains, continue with component repair.

Fix 2: Repair Windows, then run SFC
Use these commands from an elevated Command Prompt. DISM repairs the Windows component store; System File Checker then uses the repaired store to replace damaged protected files.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window if the progress appears to pause.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
Microsoft documents this DISM and SFC sequence for supported Windows versions.Microsoft Windows image repair guidance
On Windows 7 and Vista, use Windows Update and sfc /scannow; the modern /RestoreHealth workflow does not apply in the same way.
Repeating SFC without knowing whether the component store is healthy can leave you guessing about what changed. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan finds, while repair actions are performed by the full version. It is optional, and repairing or reinstalling the affected program remains the definitive fix when that program has its own damaged files.
If SFC says it could not repair the file
Do not download a replacement DLL.
- Open File Explorer.
- Enter
%windir%LogsCBSin the address bar. - Open
CBS.logafter SFC completes. - Search for
nlslexiconsorCannot repair member file. - Note whether several
NlsLexicons*files are affected. - Run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once.
If the same files still fail, use a matching Windows installation source with DISM rather than copying a DLL from another computer. The source must match the Windows edition, release, architecture, and servicing state. Microsoft’s image-repair documentation explains the source-based repair process.Microsoft DISM repair guidance

Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
A legitimate system file can be quarantined after a false positive, although malware or an impersonating file is also possible.

A copy found in a program’s temporary folder, a user profile, or a random application directory deserves more suspicion than a file restored through Windows servicing.

Fix 4: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error began immediately after a Windows update, language change, cleanup utility, or software installation, System Restore may reverse the damaged configuration.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can remove recently installed applications, drivers, or updates. Microsoft’s System Restore guidance explains what changes are affected.Microsoft System Restore
Fix 5: Repair the program that reports the error
If Windows language repair completes successfully but only one old application still displays the message, the application may be using an outdated loader or carrying a damaged installation.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair or Reset if offered.
- If neither is available, uninstall the program.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it using the developer’s official installer.
- Test it before adding unofficial patches or copied DLLs.
A program-specific error does not prove that the program ships with nlslexicons000a.dll. It may simply be the first application to request a damaged Windows language component.

Architecture and version checks
A 32-bit program on 64-bit Windows may be redirected to the 32-bit system directory. The application and Windows component must still be compatible. Do not mix a Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 binary with another release, even when the filename is identical.
Microsoft support material lists older builds of this file, including a Windows Vista x86 version, while public records show other release-era variants. These are historical identification details, not permission to obtain individual files from unofficial catalogs.Microsoft Vista file information
If the message says “specified module could not be found,” the named DLL may exist while one of its dependencies is missing. That is another reason manual replacement often fails.

Do not use regsvr32
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general repair utility. Microsoft’s file analysis describes nlslexicons000a.dll as language data and code rather than a normal self-registering COM library.Microsoft regsvr32 documentation

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do not reinstall unrelated runtimes
Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, and device drivers are usually irrelevant to a missing Windows language component. Install them only when the application has a separate, documented dependency error.
Do not use Device Manager as the primary repair
Device Manager can repair a hardware driver, but it cannot restore a Windows language pack. If the same application also reports graphics, audio, or hardware errors, update those drivers separately through Windows Update or the hardware manufacturer.
Best Value
Hunting through Device Manager for stale drivers can create a second problem when the original failure is a language component. Outbyte Driver Updater can show which drivers its free scan identifies, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional and is not a substitute for Windows language repair.
Avoid random DLL downloads
Do not download nlslexicons000a.dll from a DLL collection site or copy it from another PC. The file may contain malware, belong to the wrong Windows release, use the wrong architecture, have an invalid signature, or depend on other language files that are also missing. It often does not fix the underlying component-store or language-pack damage.

FAQ
Is nlslexicons000a.dll malware?
The genuine file is a Microsoft Windows Spanish natural-language component. The filename alone does not prove that a copy is genuine. Check its path, digital signature, and Windows Security results, then scan the computer.
Should Windows 11 always contain this file?
No. This filename is mainly associated with older Windows releases. Current Windows language components use newer servicing models, so its absence on a current installation is not automatically a problem.
Can I fix it by installing Spanish?
Often, yes, when the Spanish language component was removed or incompletely installed. If installation fails or other system files are damaged, run DISM followed by SFC.

What if Windows cannot reinstall Spanish?
Install pending Windows updates, restart, and try again. If the language installation still fails, repair the component store with DISM and inspect CBS.log. Persistent storage corruption may require a disk-health investigation or a Windows repair installation.
