The wording is generic Windows loader text. It does not prove that the named file itself is absent.
Fix nlslexicons0011.dll errors
1. Install pending Windows updates and restart
A failed or interrupted update can leave protected components incomplete.
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- On Windows 10, select Update & Security, then Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not insist on it.
- Try the affected program again.
If the error remains, continue with component repair. Do not search for a replacement DLL before completing that step.
2. Repair Windows with DISM, then SFC
Microsoft recommends using Deployment Image Servicing and Management before System File Checker when Windows files are missing or corrupted. DISM repairs the component store; SFC then replaces damaged protected files using that repaired store.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter this command and press Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window while it is working.
- Run SFC:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands finish.
- Test the program again.
Microsoft’s System File Checker guidance explains the procedure and the possible result messages.
A successful repair usually ends with SFC reporting that Windows Resource Protection found no integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. If the application still fails, continue below rather than repeatedly copying DLL files.

3. Use a matching repair source if DISM cannot repair Windows
DISM normally obtains repair files through Windows Update. If Windows Update is damaged or the required files are unavailable, Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation source.
You need installation media that matches the installed Windows edition and version. Do not use an arbitrary ISO or a source from a different release.
With the correct source available:
- Note its drive letter. The example below uses
C:RepairSourceWindows. - Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
- When DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.

Windows 7 does not support the modern /RestoreHealth workflow in the same form. Microsoft notes that the relevant DISM options for Windows 8.1 and later do not apply to Windows 7. On an older system, use the repair guidance appropriate to that Windows release rather than forcing a newer command.
4. Repair the application if only one program reports the error
If Windows itself works normally and only one old game or application displays the message, the program may have an incomplete installation, an outdated loader, or an incorrect dependency expectation.
Use the application’s original installer or its built-in repair option:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the application on Windows 10.
- Choose Advanced options, Modify, or Repair if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart the application.
If no repair option exists, uninstall the program, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the developer’s official installer or original supported media. Back up saved games and application data first.

A program-specific copy next to its executable should be used only when the application developer explicitly supplies it. Do not place a random file in the application folder, System32, or SysWOW64.

If reinstalling the application changes nothing, return to DISM and SFC. The program may be calling a Windows component that is still damaged.
5. Check antivirus quarantine without weakening security
Security software may quarantine a damaged or tampered system file, but restoring it blindly is unsafe.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving the affected file or Windows component.
- Do not restore the file unless it is confirmed to be a genuine Microsoft-signed file and the detection is clearly a false positive.
- Run DISM and SFC instead of disabling antivirus protection.
If the file repeatedly disappears after repair, run a Full scan in Windows Security. Consider an offline scan if you suspect malware or if protected files continue changing.
6. Check architecture and file integrity
Windows x86 and x64 components are not interchangeable. A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows, but that does not make every DLL copy suitable for every process or Windows directory.

A file can have the right name but the wrong:
- CPU architecture
- Windows servicing level
- dependency set
- digital signature
- system location
To inspect a file already present:
- Browse to its location in File Explorer.
- Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Inspect the signer details.
- Open the Details tab and compare the company and description with Microsoft records.
A missing signature, an unexpected publisher, or a copy located in an unusual temporary folder is a reason to remove suspicion from the file and repair Windows through DISM and SFC. Do not treat third-party hash lists as Microsoft-authenticated release data.

7. Check drivers only when the symptoms indicate a broader device problem
nlslexicons0011.dll is not a device driver, and updating a graphics, audio, or chipset driver will not normally replace it. Consider driver work only when the same failure appeared alongside device errors, crashes, or a recent hardware change.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the failing device.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a problem that began after a driver update, open the device’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver if available.

8. Do not register this DLL with regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. Microsoft describes it as a tool for registering DLL components in the registry.
nlslexicons0011.dll is natural-language data and code, not a documented COM or ActiveX component. Running this command is not a repair:
regsvr32 nlslexicons0011.dll
It is likely to return an error such as a missing entry point. Registration will not restore a protected Windows file, repair its dependencies, or correct an architecture mismatch.

If DISM and SFC repeatedly report corruption, or the file disappears again after every restart, investigate broader system damage.
Use these options in order:
- Review the SFC result and inspect
%windir%LogsCBSCBS.logfor repair details. - Check the antivirus history and run a full or offline security scan.
- Check disk health and available storage.
- Use System Restore if a restore point predates the failure:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exe. - Select a suitable restore point.
- Confirm the restore operation.
- If the problem persists, perform an in-place Windows repair using matching installation media.
- If Windows cannot boot reliably or the installation is broadly damaged, back up personal data and consider a clean installation.
A repair installation is preferable to manually replacing protected DLLs because it restores the component set as a matched Windows installation.
