Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →nlslexicons0026.dll is a Microsoft Windows Natural Language component. When nlslexicons0026.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair Windows first rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is associated with Microsoft Neutral Natural Language Server Data and Code and the Windows component Microsoft-Windows-NaturalLanguage6. It supports language-related Windows functions, including resources used by locale and text-processing features. Its exact internal function is not publicly documented in detail, and the filename alone does not prove that Windows Search is the source of every error.
What the error means
You may see wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because nlslexicons0026.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because nlslexicons0026.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting nlslexicons0026.dll.”
- “Error loading nlslexicons0026.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “nlslexicons0026.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages do not always mean the named file is absent. Windows can also display “the specified module could not be found” when the DLL is present but one of its dependencies cannot be loaded. A damaged Windows component store, failed update, incompatible file, antivirus quarantine, disk corruption, or a broken application can all produce similar symptoms.
A 64-bit Windows installation may contain 64-bit files in C:WindowsSystem32 and 32-bit files in C:WindowsSysWOW64. Those folder names are counterintuitive. Do not copy a file into either directory based only on the application’s bitness.

Before repairing anything
Record the following:
- The exact error message.
- The application or game that displays it.
- Whether other Windows programs are failing.
- The full path shown for the DLL, if one appears.
- Your Windows edition, version, build, and architecture.
- Whether the problem began after an update, cleanup, antivirus alert, installation, or unexpected shutdown.
Do not download nlslexicons0026.dll from a random DLL website. The file may be the wrong Windows build, wrong architecture, modified, or bundled with malware. Manual copying can also bypass Windows servicing and leave the component store inconsistent. Windows Update, DISM, SFC, System Restore, Windows repair media, or the affected application’s official installer are safer sources.
Fix 1: Install Windows updates and restart
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, depending on pending updates.
A missing or damaged language component can be repaired as part of Windows servicing.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- On Windows 10, select Update & Security, then Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all applicable updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Launch the affected program again.
If the error returns, continue with DISM and SFC. Do not repeatedly reinstall unrelated runtimes such as Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET unless the application’s own documentation identifies one of them as missing. There is no verified evidence that nlslexicons0026.dll belongs to those redistributables.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 2: Repair Windows with DISM, then SFC
Time needed: 15–45 minutes.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, which gives System File Checker a reliable source for replacing damaged protected files. Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to complete. Do not close the window if the progress percentage appears to pause.
- After DISM finishes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Microsoft’s repair procedure is documented in its System File Checker guidance.
If SFC reports that it repaired corrupt files, restart and test again. If it reports that it found corrupt files but could not repair some of them, run DISM once more, restart, and repeat SFC.
Manually hunting through Windows versions and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan that shows detected problems; repairs are performed by the full version, and it is optional rather than required for this Windows servicing process.

Fix 3: Use a matching Windows repair source
Time needed: 30–90 minutes.
If DISM says that source files could not be found, Windows Update may be unavailable or the component store may be too damaged to repair itself. Microsoft documents using matching installation media as an alternate source.
You need repair media that matches the installed Windows version as closely as possible. Do not use an arbitrary older or newer image simply because it is convenient.
- Connect or mount the matching Windows installation media.
- Note its drive letter. The example below uses
C:RepairSourceWindows. - Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
- Replace the example source path with the actual Windows folder on your media.
- When DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
See Microsoft’s Repair a Windows Image documentation for source requirements and additional DISM options.
If the source does not match the installed edition or build closely enough, DISM may fail again. In that situation, use Windows Update repair guidance or perform an in-place Windows repair after backing up important files.
Fix 4: Repair or reinstall the affected application
Time needed: 10–45 minutes.
If Windows itself works normally and only one older application or game reports the error, the application installation may be damaged. A system-wide Windows repair is less likely to be the definitive fix in that situation.

- MICROSOFT WINDOWS 11 PRO (INGLES) FPP 64-BIT ENG INTL USB FLASH DRIVE
Try the application’s built-in repair option first:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Test the application.
For games, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or Verify integrity function. The exact label depends on the launcher.
If repair does not help:
- Back up the application’s saves, profiles, and configuration files.
- Uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the application developer or official store.
- Install it again.
- Apply the application’s current updates.
- Test it before restoring modified files or add-ons.
Do not copy a Windows system DLL into the application folder unless the application developer explicitly documents that deployment method. A normal Windows Natural Language component should be restored through Windows servicing.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes.
A security product may have quarantined the file, especially if the error began immediately after a scan or cleanup.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
nlslexicons0026.dll. - Check the exact path and detection name.
- Run a full scan before restoring anything.
- Restore or allow the file only if the path is a legitimate Windows location and the detection has been confirmed as a false positive.
Do not restore a copy found in a temporary folder, download directory, user profile, or unknown application folder simply because its filename matches. Microsoft explains these actions in its Protection History guidance.
If the file was outside the Windows directory, scan it separately and investigate why it was there. Location alone does not prove malware, but an unexpected duplicate should not be treated as a trusted system file.
Fix 6: Investigate disk corruption or malware
Time needed: 20 minutes to several hours.
If files keep disappearing or SFC finds new corruption after every restart, the cause may be disk errors, failed storage, or malware.
- Run a full scan with Windows Security or another reputable security product.
- Back up important documents and game saves.
- Check the drive’s health using the storage manufacturer’s diagnostic utility.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run:
chkdsk /f C:
- If Windows says the volume is in use, type
Yand press Enter. - Restart when prompted.
chkdsk may take considerable time and can require a restart. If corruption continues after DISM, SFC, and disk checks, consider System Restore, an in-place Windows repair, or a clean installation after securing a complete backup.
Fix 7: Use System Restore or Windows repair
Time needed: 30 minutes to several hours.
Use System Restore when the error began after a recent driver, update, program installation, or system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace a personal backup and may not be available.
For persistent component-store damage, an in-place repair installation can refresh Windows while preserving supported personal data and applications. Use matching official Windows installation media and follow Microsoft’s current repair instructions. A clean installation should be the last resort after backing up your files.

There is no verified evidence that nlslexicons0026.dll is a self-registering COM server. Its association with Natural Language data and code does not justify registering it. Running commands such as this is therefore not a solution:
regsvr32 nlslexicons0026.dll
Microsoft describes the utility in its regsvr32 documentation.
Drivers and Device Manager
nlslexicons0026.dll is not identified as a device driver. Device Manager will not normally repair this Windows language component.
Only investigate drivers if the failure began after a graphics, storage, chipset, audio, or other hardware change and the error occurs alongside device problems:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Look for warning icons.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Choose Update driver or Properties to inspect its status.
- Prefer the hardware manufacturer’s official driver package.
Guessing which of dozens of installed drivers is stale can add another variable to the problem. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan showing detected driver issues; installation is handled by the full version, and it is optional when the evidence points to a Windows component rather than a driver.
Which Windows versions contain it
Public file inventories associate this filename with older Windows builds, including Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. Listings include both 32-bit and 64-bit variants, with reported builds such as 6.0.6000.16386, 6.1.7600.16385, 6.2.9200.16384, and 6.3.9600.16384.
These inventories are identification clues, not a complete Microsoft package manifest. Do not assume that a current Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation must contain this exact legacy-named file, and do not substitute a file from another Windows release.
Windows 7 support ended on January 14, 2020, and Windows 8.1 support ended on January 10, 2023. Older systems are more likely to have component, update, and application compatibility problems.
FAQ
Is nlslexicons0026.dll a genuine Windows file?
It is a real Microsoft Windows component associated with Natural Language functionality. A genuine filename does not make every copy genuine, so verify its path and repair it through Windows servicing.
Should I download the DLL manually?
No. Random DLL downloads can contain malware, use the wrong architecture, or match the wrong Windows build. Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, matching repair media, System Restore, or the affected application’s official installer.
Is this a Windows Search file?
It is related broadly to Windows language resources. Windows Search uses language resources such as word breakers and stemmers, but the filename alone does not prove that Windows Search caused the error.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWhat if the DLL exists but the message says it is not found?
A dependency may be missing or damaged. Run DISM followed by SFC, then repair the affected application if only one program fails.
Should I copy it from System32 to SysWOW64?
No. Those directories serve different architecture contexts, and manual copying can create mismatches. Let Windows servicing restore the correct component.
What should I provide when asking for help?
Include the Windows version and build, application name, complete error text, DLL path, whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, SFC and DISM results, antivirus history, and the system change that preceded the failure.
