nlslexicons003e.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows language component, not a Visual C++ or DirectX runtime. If Windows says nlslexicons003e.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair Windows first rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is associated with Microsoft Neutral Natural Language Server Data and Code. It supports Windows linguistic resources used by features such as Search and other language-processing components. A program may report the error when a Windows component is damaged, quarantined, incompatible with the application, or unavailable through the expected system path.
Identify the file before repairing it
Public Windows file inventories document the following builds:
| Architecture | Documented version | Approximate size |
|---|---|---|
| 32-bit | 6.2.9200.16384 | 3.86 MB |
| 32-bit | 6.1.7600.16385 | 3.86 MB |
| 64-bit | 6.0.6000.16386 | 3.86 MB |
| 32-bit | 6.0.6000.16386 | 3.86 MB |
These are historical Windows builds, not a list of files that must exist on every Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation. The 003e suffix corresponds to hexadecimal language identifier 0x003E, which Microsoft maps to the ms language family.

On 64-bit Windows, System32 normally contains native 64-bit system components, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit components. Do not copy a file between those folders simply because the filename matches.
A legitimate copy should be in a protected Windows directory and should have a Microsoft digital signature. To check a file:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the location of the reported file.
- Right-click
nlslexicons003e.dlland select Properties. - Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signer and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and identifies Microsoft as the signer.
The exact directory depends on the Windows architecture and build. A copy in a random application folder, Downloads, or a temporary directory deserves further investigation.
What the error messages mean
You may see one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because nlslexicons003e.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because nlslexicons003e.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading nlslexicons003e.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “nlslexicons003e.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
“Could not be found” does not always mean the named file alone is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency, may reject a damaged or incompatible copy, or may be searching the wrong architecture. If only one older application shows the message, that application may also be requesting the file incorrectly.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Fix 1: Install updates and restart
A failed update or incomplete language-feature change can leave Windows components unavailable.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Start the affected program again.
If the error remains, continue with component repair. Do not repeatedly reinstall the application before checking Windows itself.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Microsoft recommends running Deployment Image Servicing and Management before System File Checker. DISM repairs the Windows component store; SFC then uses that repaired store to replace damaged protected files.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish. It can remain at one percentage for a while.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
A successful DISM operation reports that the restore operation completed successfully. SFC may report that it found no integrity violations, repaired corrupt files, or found files it could not repair.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesOutbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of hunting through repair results and repeating DISM or SFC without knowing what changed; its free scan identifies reported problems, while repair actions are handled by the full version. It is optional, and Windows servicing remains the primary repair path.
If DISM reports that source files could not be found, use a matching Windows installation source with the /Source and /LimitAccess options. The source must match the installed Windows edition, language, and build. Do not point DISM at an unrelated ISO or another computer’s system folder.
If SFC says it could not repair some files, create a readable list of the failures:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >"%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt"
Open sfcdetails.txt from the desktop. If the file does not identify nlslexicons003e.dll, the error may concern a dependent module or the application that requested it rather than this DLL itself.

Security software can remove or quarantine a legitimate system file after an update or a detection mistake.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any entry that names
nlslexicons003e.dll. - Check its path, detection details, and signer before taking action.
Only restore the file if its location and Microsoft signature are trustworthy and the detection is clearly incorrect. If you restore it, Windows Security may offer Restore followed by Allow on device. Do not allow the file merely because the filename looks familiar.
After restoring a verified file, run Windows Update and then repeat DISM and SFC. If the file is repeatedly quarantined, run a full Microsoft Defender scan and treat the possibility of malware seriously.
Fix 4: Repair the affected application
If the error appears only when launching one older program, the application may have an incorrect local dependency, an incomplete installation, or an outdated launcher.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First try the program’s own repair option:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Test the program.
- If Repair does not help, select Reset only if you understand that it may remove the application’s local settings.
For a traditional desktop program:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select the application.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what the installer provides.
If repair fails, uninstall the program, restart Windows, and reinstall it using the developer’s original installer. For a game, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or equivalent file-checking command. Reinstalling the affected application is the definitive fix when the application itself installed an incompatible private copy.
Do not assume that installing Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a graphics driver will restore this Windows language component. The available evidence identifies nlslexicons003e.dll as part of Windows, not as a verified member of those redistributable packages.
Fix 5: Check architecture and the requesting program
A 32-bit application and a 64-bit application can search different locations. Replacing a 64-bit system file with a 32-bit file, or copying a file from another Windows release, can create a new loading error.
To identify the application architecture, check its documentation or inspect the executable with a trusted diagnostic tool. More importantly, restore Windows components through DISM and SFC instead of selecting a file based only on its name and size.
If Event Viewer identifies the executable that requested the DLL:
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failure.
- Note the application name and any additional module listed.
Repair or reinstall that application if it is the only requester. If several Windows features and programs fail, continue treating the issue as Windows corruption rather than an application-local problem.
Fix 6: Check drivers only when the evidence points there
A graphics or device driver is not a verified source of nlslexicons003e.dll. Update drivers only if Device Manager shows a warning, the application is clearly tied to a device, or the event log names a driver-related failure.
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Printers.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For the most reliable result, obtain the driver from the device manufacturer or your PC manufacturer. Do not use a driver update as a substitute for DISM and SFC.

Do not download the DLL from a random website
A download may contain malware, the wrong Windows build, the wrong architecture, or altered language resources. Even a clean file with the right name may not repair the component store or the application’s actual dependency.

Do not run Regsvr32
Do not use:
regsvr32 nlslexicons003e.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that this language resource is a self-registering COM or ActiveX component. Registration will not repair a missing or corrupted Windows component.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not copy between System32 and SysWOW64
Those folders are not interchangeable on 64-bit Windows. Copying a similarly named file into the wrong directory can produce architecture or dependency errors.
Advanced recovery options
If DISM and SFC fail, and Windows Update is also malfunctioning, use a repair source that matches your edition, language, and build. Microsoft installation media can also support an in-place repair path. Back up important files first and choose the option that preserves personal files and applications when it is available.
On supported Windows 11 systems, try the repair reinstall feature:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings where supported.
If corruption continues, use System Restore:
- Open Start.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and complete the restore.
System Restore normally preserves personal files but can roll back system files, drivers, registry settings, and installed programs.
FAQ
Is nlslexicons003e.dll legitimate?
Yes, it is a documented Microsoft Windows component when it is in a protected Windows directory and carries a valid Microsoft signature. A copy in an arbitrary folder should not be trusted automatically.
Is it part of Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no verified evidence that it belongs to those runtimes. It is a Windows natural-language resource component.
Is it a SQL Server file?
Windows linguistic components can be used by SQL Server Full-Text Search, but that does not make nlslexicons003e.dll a SQL Server-specific file.
Should I manually copy the file?
No, not as a normal fix. Use DISM and SFC to restore the matching Windows component. Manual replacement is an advanced recovery procedure requiring a verified, matching Microsoft source.
What if the file exists but Windows says it is not designed to run on Windows?
Suspect corruption, tampering, an incompatible build, or a dependency failure. Check the digital signature, run DISM followed by SFC, and identify the executable making the request.
What if nothing repairs it?
Check Windows Security, review CBS logs, repair or reinstall the one affected application, then use System Restore or a Windows repair reinstall. If malware or disk failure is suspected, back up personal data and use Microsoft recovery options rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
