nmocod.dll is a legacy 32-bit application DLL associated with NetManage ActiveX controls, Delphi-era software, and programs such as Ecco Pro. If Windows says nmocod.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, the safest fix is to identify the program that requests it and repair or reinstall that program with its complete original component set.
Do not begin by copying a random DLL into System32. The application may need additional NetManage DLLs or OCX controls, may require COM registration, or may contain a version of the file that differs from an arbitrary download.

What nmocod.dll belongs to
Historical NetManage documentation describes NMOCOD.DLL as the NMOCOD Object Library and shared code for NetManage ActiveX controls. It appeared with legacy Delphi components and older applications that used NetManage networking controls.
It is not a normal Windows component. Current Windows installations do not normally provide it, so Windows repair tools will not usually restore it.

The version, size, hash, and copyright details sometimes shown in file databases are historical third-party metadata, not a current Microsoft or NetManage package specification. Treat them as clues, not proof that every copy of the file should match.
First identify the program requesting the file
The program name is more useful than the DLL filename. Look at the error dialog and note the executable, shortcut name, or application title. Then ask when the error appears:
- Only when opening an old Delphi-built application
- After reinstalling Ecco Pro or a modem utility
- When launching software copied from an older computer
- During Windows startup because an old program has a startup entry
- After antivirus software quarantined a legacy file
- After moving the application to a different folder
Also check whether the program is installed normally or was copied manually. Legacy applications often expect their DLLs, OCX controls, configuration files, and data files in a particular directory.
Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps and search for the program name. If it is listed, select the three-dot menu and choose Advanced options if that option exists. A desktop application may not provide Windows’ built-in repair controls, so use its original setup program instead.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the original application
This is the most likely solution.
- Close the affected program.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the application that displays the error.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Modify, Repair, or Advanced options → Repair, if available.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
If no repair option exists, locate the original installer from trusted installation media, the developer’s official archive, or the organization that supplied the software. Run Setup.exe by right-clicking it and choosing Run as administrator. Select Repair if offered. Otherwise, uninstall the damaged copy, restart, and reinstall it.
Use the complete installer rather than restoring only nmocod.dll. Historical NetManage packages commonly included related files such as NMORENU.DLL, NMSCKN.DLL, NMFTPSN.DLL, and one or more OCX controls. Replacing one file can simply expose the next missing dependency.
The repair worked if the application opens without the DLL message and its main features function normally. If the same error returns, confirm that you repaired the program named in the dialog rather than another similarly named application.

Fix 2: Restore a quarantined file carefully
Antivirus software may quarantine an old DLL because legacy components are uncommon, digitally signed information may be absent, or the file resembles unwanted software. Do not disable antivirus protection to accept an untrusted download.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Expand the event involving
nmocod.dll. - Check the affected file path and the program that used it.
- Restore the file only if it came from the application’s trusted original installer or installation media.
- If the source is uncertain, remove the old copy and reinstall the application from trusted media instead.
- Run a full scan before launching the restored program.
Microsoft’s Protection History guidance explains how quarantine and restoration work. A filename alone does not prove that a file is safe.
Fix 3: Register the DLL only when the installer requires it
regsvr32 is not a general-purpose DLL repair command. Use it only when the application’s installer or historical deployment instructions explicitly require registration.
First place the correct file in the application’s original directory, or let the installer place it there. Then open an elevated Command Prompt:

- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Change to the directory containing the file. For example:
cd /d "C:PathToTheApplication"
- On 64-bit Windows, run the 32-bit registration tool:
%SystemRoot%SysWOW64regsvr32.exe nmocod.dll
- On 32-bit Windows, use:
%SystemRoot%System32regsvr32.exe nmocod.dll
Microsoft documents the purpose and syntax of regsvr32. If registration succeeds, Windows displays a confirmation message. Launch the application again.
A message such as DllRegisterServer was not found, DllRegisterServer failed, or The specified module could not be found does not necessarily mean the filename is wrong. It can indicate that:
- The DLL is not self-registering.
- A companion DLL is missing.
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit tool was used.
- The file is incompatible with the application.
- The Command Prompt was not elevated.
- The DLL is present but one of its dependencies is absent.
If registration fails, return to the original installer instead of repeatedly trying different copies.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit application compatibility
A 32-bit application can often run on 64-bit Windows, but its dependencies must also be the correct architecture. Do not place a 32-bit legacy DLL into a 64-bit-only application directory or assume that System32 is the correct location.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The application normally searches its own installation directory first. Copying nmocod.dll to C:WindowsSystem32 may not help and can create conflicts with another program.
Very old software may also use a 16-bit installer. On current 64-bit Windows, that installer can fail independently of nmocod.dll. In that case, look for a newer installer supplied by the software owner, use a supported compatibility environment, or run the application inside an appropriate virtual machine.
If the program has a compatibility setting, right-click its executable, choose Properties → Compatibility, and test the recommended compatibility mode. This may help with older applications, but it cannot supply missing NetManage files.
Fix 5: Investigate the next missing dependency
If the message says “The specified module could not be found” while nmocod.dll is visibly present, Windows may be reporting a dependency of that DLL rather than the named file itself.
Check the application directory for the complete original set of DLL and OCX files. Do not mix files from different releases. An “entry point not found” error especially suggests that the DLL version does not match the application or one of its companion components.
A dependency-analysis utility or the application’s startup log can show which module fails next. Use that information to repair the original package, not to assemble a collection of isolated downloads.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components when Windows itself is damaged
This is a lower-probability fix because nmocod.dll is a third-party application file, not a protected Windows component. Use Windows repair commands when you also see damaged system files, failed Windows features, update errors, or unrelated built-in applications failing.

Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of hunting through system issues and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed; its free scan shows detected problems, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when nmocod.dll belongs to that application.
Fix 7: Update related drivers only when the program needs them
A modem utility or networking application may also depend on an old device driver. This is relevant when the DLL error began after replacing hardware, updating Windows, or reinstalling a device package, but drivers do not normally install nmocod.dll.
To check:
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Modems, Network adapters, or Other devices.
- Right-click the device used by the affected application.
- Select Properties → Driver.
- Review the device status and choose Update Driver if an update is available.
- Restart Windows and test the legacy application.
Outbyte Driver Updater can remove the guesswork of identifying stale drivers; its free scan reports detected driver issues, while driver installation requires the full version. It will not replace the original NetManage application package.
What not to do
- Do not download
nmocod.dllfrom a random DLL website. - Do not replace it with a file from a different application or computer.
- Do not copy it blindly into
System32orSysWOW64. - Do not use registry cleaners to repair a missing application dependency.
- Do not assume Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, or .NET will install this NetManage file.
- Do not disable antivirus protection to accept an unknown DLL.
- Do not run
regsvr32repeatedly when the DLL does not expose the required registration entry point. - Do not mix NetManage files from different application releases.
Random DLL downloads can contain malware, use the wrong architecture, have an incompatible version, or omit the companion files that the application actually needs.
FAQ
Is nmocod.dll part of Windows 10 or Windows 11?
No. It is associated with legacy third-party NetManage components. Windows does not normally install or maintain it.
Should I put it in System32?
Usually not. A 32-bit application generally expects its dependencies in its own installation directory, and the original installer may also register associated OCX controls.
Is nmocod.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Reported metadata identifies it as Win32, meaning 32-bit. On 64-bit Windows, use the 32-bit regsvr32 under SysWOW64 only when registration is required.
Why does reinstalling the file not fix “module could not be found”?
That message can refer to a dependency of nmocod.dll. The application may also need other NetManage DLLs or OCX controls, or the installed file may be incompatible.
Will SFC restore nmocod.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows components. It does not generally provide third-party application files.
What if the application still cannot run after reinstalling?
Confirm that the installer completed, check antivirus Protection History, verify that the program is installed in its expected directory, and inspect the next missing dependency. If the software is no longer supported, use trusted archived installation media in a suitable compatibility environment or virtual machine rather than assembling DLLs manually.
