Why is North Beach Games developing Stranded Deep 2 in Prague?
North Beach Games announced North Beach Games Prague, based in Prague, Czech Republic, on Aug. 16, 2024. The company named Stranded Deep 2 as the new studio’s initial project, describing it as the long-awaited sequel to Stranded Deep, co-created by Sam Edwards. The original announcement said the team would be led by North Beach Games CTO Sam Edwards and General Manager Tomáš Pšenička, with the core team working primarily on-site and some staff working remotely. North Beach Games’ announcement called the original Stranded Deep a “multi-million unit-selling” game but did not publish an exact sales total.

When will Stranded Deep 2 come out?
The developer plans to launch Stranded Deep 2 in Steam Early Access in early 2027. That is a target window, not a confirmed day or month, and the game is not currently available to buy. The developer also says additional services and consoles are planned, but has not specified which platforms or when they will arrive. Where is Stranded Deep 2 set, and is it a direct sequel?
The game shifts away from the first title’s island premise to a vast desert wilderness threaded by an endless river. According to the developer’s official FAQ, the world is procedurally generated as the player travels, with hand-crafted locations scattered throughout it. No exact map size has been announced.
Despite the number in its title, Stranded Deep 2 does not continue the original game’s events. The FAQ describes it as a new survival adventure that may include nods to the first game.

The developer describes the game as a sandbox rather than a linear, story-driven adventure. Lore will be scattered around the world for players to discover. Will Stranded Deep 2 support controllers and Steam Deck?
Controller support is planned to be added during Early Access. The developer also aims for Steam Deck Verified status during Early Access; that is an aim, not an indication that the game is already certified. The developer’s FAQ gives these plans.
