Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →nossu2dm.dll is a legacy Nokia application DLL, not a normal Windows system file. If Windows reports that nossu2dm.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair the Nokia program that originally installed it rather than downloading a replacement into System32.
Start with this three-minute diagnosis
Before changing anything, record:
- Which executable triggers the error: Check the title bar, shortcut properties, Task Manager, or the program named in the message.
- When it appears: At Windows startup, when opening Nokia software, when connecting a phone, or during firmware-related work.
- The complete installation path: Right-click the shortcut, select Properties, and inspect Target and Start in.
- Whether the application is 32-bit: The public metadata for nossu2dm.dll points to a 32-bit file. A 32-bit Nokia program can require 32-bit libraries even on 64-bit Windows.
- Whether Windows Security removed something: Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history.
The filename alone does not identify the exact Nokia product. It has been associated with Nokia Software Updater and may also appear in related Nokia PC software, but the precise product relationship is not fully documented by a current Nokia installer.

What nossu2dm.dll is
Public file catalogs identify nossu2dm.dll as a Nokia Corporation file named nossu2dm. Reported catalog metadata describes a 32-bit file with version 2011.32.2.228 and a size of about 0.51 MB. Another inventory associates it with Nokia Software Updater version 2012.6.1.426, although that association is not confirmed by a current installation package.

The correct location is normally the folder belonging to the Nokia application that loads it. A copy found in a random temporary folder or a Windows system directory deserves additional scrutiny.
Commonly reported messages include:
- “The program can’t start because nossu2dm.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “This application has failed to start because nossu2dm.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading nossu2dm.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because nossu2dm.dll was not found.”
- “nossu2dm.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages are not all equivalent. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that nossu2dm.dll is absent, or that a dependency required by the DLL is absent.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the Nokia application
This is the most likely solution because the DLL belongs to the application that installed it.
If the program is still installed
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps → Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps → Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Nokia Software Updater, Nokia Suite, Ovi Suite, PC Connectivity Solution, or another Nokia program shown by your diagnosis.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair. If Repair is unavailable or does not help, select Reset only if you are prepared to lose that application’s local settings.
- Restart Windows and launch the Nokia program again.
If the classic Control Panel entry provides the repair option:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the Nokia application.
- Choose Repair or Change.
- Follow the installer prompts, then restart.
If repair is unavailable
Uninstall and reinstall the complete application:
- Save any Nokia application data you still need.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Remove the Nokia program and any clearly related component that was installed with it.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall from the original Nokia installer, original installation media, or a verifiable vendor archive.
- Run the installer by right-clicking it and choosing Run as administrator.
Do not copy a single DLL from another computer. A complete reinstall restores the executable, supporting libraries, registry entries, phone connectivity components, and the correct folder structure. It also addresses the common case where a dependency is missing even though a file named nossu2dm.dll is present.
Success looks like: the Nokia program opens without the error and reaches the same screen that previously failed. If the error returns immediately after a clean reinstall, note the executable path and inspect the next error carefully. The application may be too old for the current Windows release or may require another legacy component.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an old DLL, particularly when an application is obsolete or its installer is no longer maintained. That is a possibility, not proof that the quarantined file is safe.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand entries related to the Nokia application’s folder.
- Read the detection name, file path, and action.
- If the file came from a trusted, verifiable Nokia installer and you have confirmed the detection is a false positive, use Actions → Restore.
- Reinstall or repair the Nokia application after restoring it.
- Run a full scan if the path or provenance is unclear.
Do not restore a DLL simply because its filename matches. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined threat can expose the device if the file is malicious. A file with a Nokia-looking name in a temporary directory, startup folder, or unrelated application folder should be investigated rather than automatically restored.
Fix 3: Check the application path and dependencies
A copied or incomplete program folder often produces this error. It can also happen after restoring an old backup.
- Right-click the Nokia shortcut and select Properties.
- Copy the path shown in Target.
- Open that folder in File Explorer.
- Check whether
nossu2dm.dllis located beside the application’s executable or in a subfolder used by that program. - Do not move the DLL to System32 or SysWOW64.
- If the folder came from a backup, replace the incomplete copy with a full installation.
- If the application uses phone connectivity software, reinstall that complete component as well.
A 32-bit program normally loads 32-bit dependencies. Installing a 64-bit runtime cannot turn a 32-bit Nokia DLL into a 64-bit library. Avoid mixing files from different Nokia products or releases.
The DLL is not verified as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file. Do not assume that installing a Visual C++ package alone will repair it. If the Nokia installer specifically requires a Microsoft runtime, use the architecture it requests and obtain it from Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.

DISM and System File Checker repair Windows components and protected Windows files. They do not normally recreate a third-party Nokia DLL, so use them when Windows has broader corruption, not as the primary nossu2dm.dll fix.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands finish.
- Test the Nokia program again.
Microsoft documents this DISM and SFC repair sequence. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Windows and the Nokia application. If it reports no integrity violations, the problem is probably still with the Nokia installation, its dependencies, or compatibility.
Manually comparing DISM and SFC output can be tedious when you are repeating repairs without knowing what changed. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying issues, while its full version performs the repair; reinstalling the Nokia application remains the definitive fix for this app-owned DLL.
Fix 5: Update related phone drivers only when the error points there
A driver update is relevant when the Nokia program opens but fails while detecting a phone, or when Device Manager shows an error for a Nokia connectivity device. It is not a substitute for reinstalling nossu2dm.dll.

Windows Features are not a normal source for this DLL. Do not enable random legacy features hoping they will supply it. Enable a Windows feature only when the Nokia installer explicitly reports that requirement.
Keeping track of hardware IDs and manually hunting compatible driver versions can take longer than diagnosing the original application. Outbyte Driver Updater can show which drivers are stale, while the full version performs the installation; it does not replace reinstalling the Nokia software that owns nossu2dm.dll.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic DLL fix
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide the registration entry point required by COM or ActiveX components. It is not a general-purpose command for installing application libraries.
Avoid running:
regsvr32 nossu2dm.dll
unless the Nokia application’s documentation specifically instructs you to register that file. A normal application DLL may return an entry-point error, and successful registration would still not repair a missing dependency or incorrect application path. Microsoft explains the command’s purpose and syntax in its regsvr32 documentation.

Should you download nossu2dm.dll?
No, not from a random DLL download site. An isolated download can contain malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible build, a damaged export table, or a file with no trustworthy signature. Public catalogs may report hashes and sizes, but those values do not prove that an arbitrary downloaded copy is genuine.
Use the original Nokia installer, installation media, or a verifiable vendor archive instead. If no trustworthy installer is available and the software is no longer needed, remove the obsolete application rather than weakening Windows security to load an abandoned DLL.
If the error appears at every boot after the Nokia program was removed:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable a clearly identified Nokia startup entry.
- Remove the stale Nokia application from Installed apps or
appwiz.cpl. - Restart Windows.
FAQ
Is nossu2dm.dll a Windows file?
No verified evidence supports that. It is associated with legacy Nokia PC software and should normally remain in that program’s installation directory.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Which Nokia program uses it?
The filename is plausibly associated with Nokia Software Updater and possibly related Nokia Suite or Ovi Suite components. The exact program cannot be identified from the filename alone.
Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public metadata consistently points to a 32-bit copy. A 32-bit Nokia application therefore needs compatible 32-bit dependencies even on 64-bit Windows.
Does DISM or SFC restore it?
Usually not. DISM and SFC repair Windows components and protected system files, not third-party Nokia DLLs.
Why does Windows say the module cannot be found when the DLL is visible?
The DLL may depend on another missing library, or the application may be searching the wrong directory. Reinstall the complete program instead of copying individual files.
Should I register it?
Only if the vendor explicitly documents that requirement. regsvr32 is not a universal DLL installation command.
What should I report if the problem remains?
Record the exact error, calling executable, complete installation path, Windows version, Nokia application version, quarantine status, and whether the application is 32-bit. Those details distinguish a damaged Nokia install from a missing dependency, compatibility problem, or suspicious unrelated file.
