It is a children’s battery-powered ride-on toy, not a road vehicle, and specific units were recalled in 2024 because the accelerator could stick.
What is the Mario Kart 24V Ride-On Racer?
It is a children’s ride-on toy made by JAKKS Pacific, styled after the karts in Nintendo’s Mario Kart series. Gizmodo described it in 2022 as having plastic wheels, game-inspired sound effects and an adjustable seat, and listed it for ages 3 and up. Those details are product descriptions, not results from an independent test. Gizmodo’s 2022 story covered the kart as a fun piece of gaming merchandise—not a practical car.

How fast does the Mario Kart ride-on go?
The advertised description gives it three forward speeds and a top speed of around 8 mph. Entertainment Earth’s listing also specifies reverse and identifies the product as model JK414012. These are stated product specifications, not independently measured performance figures. Entertainment Earth’s listing is marked sold out and informational only.
Was the Mario Kart ride-on recalled?
Yes. On April 25, 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about 17,500 JAKKS Pacific Mario Kart 24V Ride-On Racer cars. Debris could clog the accelerator pedal, leaving it stuck after a rider removed their foot and creating a crash hazard. The CPSC reported 65 incidents involving debris-clogged pedals, including 15 crashes into permanent structures and one minor injury. Read the CPSC recall notice.

How to identify an affected racer
Check the date code on the underside of the vehicle, at the bottom of the blue panel. The CPSC identified these affected codes:

- 1952VE01
- 2242VE01
- 2352VE01
- 2852VE01
- 0583VE01
What owners of recalled units should do
The CPSC instructed owners of affected racers to stop using them and contact JAKKS Pacific for a free repair kit containing a replacement pedal and installation instructions. Its notice states: “Consumers should immediately stop using the 24V Ride-On cars and contact JAKKS Pacific to receive a free repair kit.” Follow the official recall notice for contact and repair instructions.

The CPSC said vehicles being sold at the time of its 2024 announcement were not involved in the recall. That statement does not confirm the recall status of a used kart or a present-day marketplace listing: check the specific vehicle’s date code and recall guidance before use or purchase.

What did it cost, and can you still buy one?
The Toy Insider listed an MSRP of $399.99 in its October 3, 2022 entry. That is a dated MSRP, not a current price or an estimate of resale value. The Toy Insider’s 2022 listing records that price.
