When Windows says it is missing or cannot be loaded, repair the application that needs it before changing Windows or copying DLLs into system folders.
What nppc64_80.dll is
NPP stands for NVIDIA Performance Primitives, a CUDA-accelerated library used for image and signal processing. The nppc portion identifies the NPP core library, 64 indicates a 64-bit Windows binary, and _80 refers to the CUDA/NPP 8.0-era naming scheme.

Start with the application that shows the error
The most reliable fix is to repair or reinstall the specific program that displays the message.
1. Identify the failing program
Note the application name in the error window. If the message appears during startup:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select the Processes tab.
- Look for the program that closes or remains stuck.
- Right-click it and select Open file location, if available.
- In File Explorer, check whether
nppc64_80.dllis beside the program executable.
You can also search for the file without downloading anything:
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Search for
nppc64_80.dll. - Record its full path and the application folder containing it.
Do not assume that a copy in the CUDA Toolkit directory is the copy your application requires. The failing program may expect a particular CUDA 8.0 build in its own folder.
2. Repair the program
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps and then Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if available.
- Start the application again.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Apps & features.
- Select the affected program.
- Open Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if available.
Some desktop applications provide their own repair option in Control Panel:
- Press Win + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the application.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts.
A successful repair restores the application’s original CUDA files and allows it to start without the DLL message. If repair is unavailable or does not help, uninstall the application and reinstall it from the developer’s official installer. Use the same application architecture and, where offered, the same supported release family.
For a game, use the launcher’s Verify, Scan and repair, or Verify integrity feature before reinstalling the entire game.

Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software can remove or quarantine an application DLL. Check this before repeatedly reinstalling the program.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the application folder or
nppc64_80.dll. - Read the detection details and affected path.
Do not restore the file solely because a DLL website labels it as safe. Confirm that the file came from the application’s official installer and that the antivirus event is a false positive. If you are uncertain, reinstall the application from its official source instead.
If reinstalling removes the file again, update Windows Security, run a full scan, and contact the application developer. Do not create an antivirus exclusion until the file’s provenance and detection have been verified.

Repair missing runtime dependencies
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that nppc64_80.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found that file but failed to load one of its dependencies.
Install the Visual C++ runtime only when needed
nppc64_80.dll is not a Visual C++ Redistributable file. However, a CUDA 8.0 application may require a Microsoft C++ runtime.
If the application documentation or installer specifies a Microsoft runtime:

Installing the latest Visual C++ package will not install nppc64_80.dll. It only addresses a possible dependency in the application’s loading chain.
Check the application’s bundled files
Look in the program’s installation directory for related CUDA files. A missing group of files suggests an incomplete installation rather than a Windows problem. Do not replace one file with a different CUDA release. Mixing CUDA runtime versions can cause entry-point errors or make the file appear incompatible with Windows.
If the DLL exists beside the executable but the application still fails, use a reputable dependency-analysis tool or the application vendor’s diagnostic instructions to identify the missing dependency. The full error may name a different runtime even though nppc64_80.dll is the first file mentioned.

Reinstall CUDA 8.0 only for software that requires it
Developers and vendors working with an application deliberately built against CUDA 8.0 can use NVIDIA’s official CUDA Toolkit Archive and select the NPP runtime component documented for CUDA 8.0.
This is not the correct first step for most end users. Installing a newer CUDA Toolkit does not guarantee compatibility with an application expecting the _80 runtime, and installing the complete Toolkit may add components the application does not use.
Use the Toolkit only when:
- The application vendor explicitly requires CUDA 8.0.
- You are rebuilding or maintaining CUDA software.
- The vendor’s instructions identify the NPP runtime as the missing component.
Keep the required runtime beside the application or in the vendor-specified CUDA directory. Do not scatter multiple CUDA versions through Windows system folders.
Update the NVIDIA driver only for a driver-related failure
nppc64_80.dll is an NVIDIA CUDA/NPP runtime library, not a normal display-driver DLL. Updating the graphics driver will not reliably restore an application-bundled copy that was deleted or damaged.
A driver update is reasonable when:
- The application reports a CUDA driver compatibility error.
- Other CUDA applications also fail.
- Device Manager reports a problem with the NVIDIA adapter.
- The application vendor lists a driver version as required.
To check Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the NVIDIA device.
- Select Properties.
- Check the Device status message under General.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and version.
- Use Update Driver only when Windows or the application vendor recommends it.
For a clean, reliable result, obtain the driver from NVIDIA’s official support channel and select the correct Windows and hardware model. If the issue began immediately after a driver change, the Roll Back Driver button may be more appropriate than another update.

Manually hunting through hardware entries and comparing driver versions can be time-consuming. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its full version performs the installation. It is optional, and reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when that application owns nppc64_80.dll.
Check Windows components only as a secondary step
Windows repair tools do not normally recreate an application-owned CUDA DLL. Use them when Windows has broader symptoms, including damaged system components, failed built-in applications, or repeated servicing errors.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to finish, then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows and test the affected program. If DISM cannot obtain repair files through Windows Update, Microsoft documents using a valid repair source:

Replace the example source with a valid repair location for your Windows installation. Do not invent a repair path.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting harder. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for related Windows problems; its full version performs the repair. It is optional, and it will not replace the application’s CUDA DLL when the program installation is the real cause.
Confirm architecture and version compatibility
A 64-bit program can load nppc64_80.dll, but a 32-bit program cannot load this 64-bit library. On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit application still needs its x86 dependencies.
To check an application’s architecture, consult its official documentation or installer details. If the application has separate x86 and x64 releases, install the release matching the required runtime.
Recommended Free Tools
Avoid replacing the file with:
- A 32-bit DLL.
- A DLL from a different CUDA generation.
- A file taken from another application.
- A file with an unknown source or altered metadata.
Third-party indexes may report a description, file version, architecture, or size for this filename, but those details are not an NVIDIA-published checksum or file manifest. Treat them as identification hints, not proof that a replacement is authentic.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What not to do
Do not copy it into System32
nppc64_80.dll is not a Windows system DLL. Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 can create version conflicts, leave an unmanaged file behind, and still fail to satisfy the application’s dependencies.
Use the application’s installer or the vendor’s documented runtime location.

Do not run regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM or ActiveX components. A CUDA computational runtime DLL is not ordinarily registered that way.
Running:
regsvr32 nppc64_80.dll
will not repair dependency resolution and may produce a “DllRegisterServer was not found” error. It is not a normal remedy for this file.
Do not use random DLL download sites
An isolated download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, the wrong CUDA build, or a damaged copy. Even an authentic file may not fix the missing dependency that caused the error.
Use the affected application’s official installer, its launcher repair function, the vendor’s redistributable package, or NVIDIA’s official CUDA archive when the software explicitly requires CUDA 8.0.
If the error still remains
Give the application vendor this information:
- Application name and exact release.
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 edition.
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- The complete error text.
- The full path where
nppc64_80.dllis missing or present. - Whether repair or reinstall restored the file.
- Any antivirus quarantine event.
- Other missing files named in the error.
- NVIDIA driver details, if CUDA errors also appear.
If only one Windows account is affected, compare that account’s permissions, environment variables, profile, and security policies with a working account. If the failure began immediately after a Windows update, review Microsoft’s recovery options only after confirming that the application files and dependencies are intact.
FAQ
Is nppc64_80.dll part of Windows?
No. It belongs to NVIDIA CUDA NPP or to an application that redistributed that runtime.
Is it an NVIDIA display-driver file?
No. It is a CUDA/NPP application runtime library. A display-driver update is not the usual fix.
Which program installed it?
There is no single confirmed end-user program. The application that reports the error is the best starting point, especially software that performs CUDA-accelerated image or signal processing.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable install it?
No. Visual C++ may repair a missing dependency, but it does not provide nppc64_80.dll.
Should I install the full CUDA Toolkit?
Only if the application vendor or your development setup specifically requires CUDA 8.0. For ordinary users, repairing or reinstalling the affected application is safer.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file exists?
Another dependency of nppc64_80.dll may be missing, incompatible, or the wrong architecture. Use the application’s supported runtime package and dependency diagnostics rather than copying another DLL.
