- The error appeared after uninstalling, upgrading, cleaning, or restoring an old program: repair or reinstall that parent application.
- Windows Security recently quarantined something: check Protection history before reinstalling.
- The application is old and runs on 64-bit Windows: confirm that it includes its 32-bit dependencies.
- You copied a DLL from somewhere else: remove that copy and reinstall the complete application.
- The program still fails after reinstalling: inspect companion DLLs, duplicate copies, and the full loader error.
- Several old LDAP-based programs are installed: check for conflicting versions before changing system folders.
Do not begin by copying a random file into System32. That can create a second problem while leaving the original application incomplete.
What nsldap32v50.dll is
nsldap32v50.dll is a 32-bit Windows LDAP client library from the Mozilla/Netscape LDAP C SDK 5.0. It is the SSL-enabled LDAP library used by older directory-aware software.

It is not:
- A Windows system DLL
- A Microsoft Visual C++ runtime
- A DirectX component
- A modern universal redistributable
- A file that every Windows installation should contain
Older Mozilla software, Netscape or Sun directory tools, LDAP clients, address-book components, enterprise applications, and products built with the Sun/Mozilla LDAP SDK may have installed it. The exact program cannot be identified from the filename alone.
The file normally belongs beside the application executable or inside that product’s bin or runtime directory. It does not normally belong in C:WindowsSystem32.
Fix 1: Identify and repair the parent application
This is the safest and most likely solution.
Find the program that owns the error
- Note the application name shown in the error window.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- If the program is listed, right-click it and choose Open file location.
- Look at the folder containing the executable.
- Check the folder name, shortcut target, Start menu entry, and installed-program list for the product name.
If the error appears during startup, shutdown, login, or a scheduled task, the responsible program may be an old background utility rather than an application you opened manually.
To inspect installed applications:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Sort by Name or Install date.
- Look for older directory tools, enterprise software, Mozilla-based products, address-book utilities, or recently changed applications.
Use Repair or Verify
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the suspected application.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
Some products instead provide Repair, Verify files, or Check installation inside their own launcher or maintenance utility. Use that function before replacing individual files.
If repair is unavailable:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Modify, if offered.
- Complete the wizard and restart Windows.
A successful repair restores the program’s complete private library set, not just nsldap32v50.dll. Test the original action that produced the error.
Reinstall from a safe source
If repair fails, uninstall and reinstall the complete product.
- Save the application’s settings, profiles, and data if the vendor supports doing so.
- Uninstall the application from Settings > Apps or Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Obtain the installer from the product’s original installation media or the vendor’s official support or download page.
- Install the product again using its normal installer.
- Restart once more and test it.
There is no verified current Microsoft redistributable that universally installs this DLL. Installing Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or another unrelated runtime is not a substitute for restoring the application that supplied it.

Fix 2: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Security software may remove an old library if it considers the file suspicious or damaged.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any item associated with the affected application.
- Confirm that the file belongs to the trusted application installer before taking action.
If the file is legitimate and the application has been verified, use the available Restore action, then repair or reinstall the parent application. Reinstalling is preferable when several files were removed.
Do not disable antivirus protection to install an unverified DLL. Microsoft notes that a restored item may be detected again unless the security decision is handled appropriately. If the detection is uncertain, leave the item quarantined and contact the application vendor.
Fix 3: Check for conflicting copies
Older LDAP products may install different SDK versions. A wrong copy can be found before the copy shipped with the intended application.
Windows uses defined DLL search-order rules, including the application directory and other searched locations. A copy in System32, the current directory, or a directory on PATH can therefore cause a version conflict.
Search for copies
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Search for
nsldap32v50.dll. - Record every location without deleting anything.
- Note which application directory each copy belongs to.
Do not assume that files with the same name are interchangeable. Different products may require different companion libraries.
If a copy is in the affected application’s own folder, leave it there. If an unrelated copy is in a shared system directory, identify its owning product first. Make a backup before renaming or removing anything, and do not alter a working installation casually.
The safer arrangement is usually for each application to use the vendor-supplied copy in its own directory. This prevents one old product from overwriting another product’s LDAP runtime.

The visible error may mention nsldap32v50.dll even when another library is the real missing dependency. Older LDAP applications may also require files such as:
nsldappr32v50.dllnsldapssl32v50.dllnspr4.dllnss3.dllssl3.dlllibplc4.dlllibplds4.dll
The exact set depends on the application bundle. Copying only nsldap32v50.dll often leaves the loader failure unchanged.
To check the application directory:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look for the executable and its nearby runtime files.
- Compare the folder with a known-good installation or the original installer contents.
If companion files are absent, run the application’s repair option or reinstall the complete product. Do not assemble a dependency set from unrelated downloads.
Fix 5: Confirm the 32-bit architecture
The 32 in nsldap32v50.dll identifies a 32-bit Windows library. A 32-bit application can require this file even when Windows 11 or Windows 10 is 64-bit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not replace it with a 64-bit DLL. The operating system’s bitness does not determine the architecture required by the application.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Read System type.
To check the application, look at its installation path and vendor documentation. A program installed under C:Program Files (x86) is commonly 32-bit, although the folder alone is not absolute proof.

Install the x86 version supplied by the application vendor. If the message says the file is “not designed to run on Windows,” suspect an architecture mismatch, corruption, or an incompatible build before assuming that Windows itself is damaged.
Fix 6: Update or reinstall the application’s drivers only when relevant
Drivers do not normally install nsldap32v50.dll, so Device Manager is not the first place to repair this error. Use it only when the affected product depends on a hardware component and its full error also identifies a driver problem.
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the affected hardware.
- Right-click the device and choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the provider and driver date.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If the problem began after a driver update, use Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver, when available. For a clean reinstall, choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and install the driver from the hardware or application vendor.
When several devices are involved, manually hunting through hardware pages and guessing which driver is stale can take longer than the DLL repair itself. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the parent application remains the definitive fix when that application owns nsldap32v50.dll.
Fix 7: Check Windows components as a secondary step
Because this is normally a third-party LDAP library, Windows component repair usually cannot recreate it. Use DISM and System File Checker when other Windows files are also failing, or when the problem began with broader system corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Run DISM before SFC. If both commands complete but the application still reports nsldap32v50.dll, reinstall the parent application rather than repeating the commands indefinitely.

Manually comparing system files and repeating SFC/DISM can make it difficult to know what actually changed. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows issues; its free scan shows detected problems, while repair is performed by the full version. It is not a replacement for reinstalling the application that supplied this DLL.
Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide COM self-registration entry points. nsldap32v50.dll is an LDAP runtime library, not documented as a COM or ActiveX server.
Running this command is therefore normally inappropriate:
regsvr32 nsldap32v50.dll
It commonly produces an entry-point or registration error and does not restore missing dependencies. Registration will not repair an incomplete application installation.
Avoid random DLL downloads and System32 copying
Downloading a standalone DLL from an unverified source can provide:
- Malware or tampered code
- The wrong SDK build
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- A file that requires missing companion libraries
- A version that conflicts with another application
It can also create DLL-preloading and search-order risks if the file is placed in a directory that another program searches.
Use the original installer, a verified backup, or an official vendor repair package. If manual copying is unavoidable, copy the verified file only into the application directory expected by that product. Do not place it in C:WindowsSystem32 as a general fix.
If the error remains
Collect these details before escalating:
- The exact application name and version shown by its installer.
- The complete error text.
- The path of every
nsldap32v50.dllcopy found. - Whether the application is 32-bit.
- Whether Windows Security quarantined a file.
- Whether repair or reinstall restored companion DLLs.
- Any application error in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application.
- The name of any dependency mentioned by a loader diagnostic.
If the failure clearly began after a recent installation or removal, System Restore may be appropriate:
