nvgsa.x64.dll is a 64-bit game DLL, not a normal Windows system file. If Windows says it is missing, not found, or cannot be loaded, restore the copy installed with the affected game instead of downloading a replacement into System32.

The NVIDIA GSA SDK identification comes from public file metadata rather than a current NVIDIA product page. The file is bundled with several Windows games, including Tom Clancy’s The Division, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Killing Floor 2, and Hitman. The exact game on your PC must be identified from the error message or the executable path.

First, identify the game requesting the file
The game name is more important than the DLL filename. A file restored from a different game or release may have the wrong contents, even if it has the same name.
Look at the title bar and body of the error. For Assassin’s Creed Unity, the message may begin with ACU.exe - System Error. ACU.exe is the game’s executable name, not a separate Windows component. It appears because Windows tried to start Assassin’s Creed Unity and that executable could not load its game-local dependency.

To find the requesting program:
- Read the complete error and note any executable name, such as
ACU.exe. - Open the game’s launcher and check the installed games list.
- In Steam, right-click the suspected game, choose Manage, and select Browse local files.
- Search the opened folder for
nvgsa.x64.dll. - If the file is absent, search the game folder for the executable named in the error.
- If several games are installed, repair only the game whose executable appears in the message.
Do not assume that an NVIDIA graphics driver installed the missing file. In this case, the file is generally part of the game installation, even though public metadata associates it with NVIDIA technology.
Fix 1: verify the affected game files
This is the best first fix because it restores the exact file intended for that game and build.
Steam
- Restart Windows.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click the affected game and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to complete the scan.
- Start the game again.
Steam may report that some files failed verification because certain local configuration files are not replaced. That message does not automatically mean the repair failed. Launch the game and check whether the same DLL error returns.

Do not move it to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Ubisoft Connect or another launcher
Use the launcher’s built-in repair or file-verification option:
- Open the official launcher.
- Open your game library.
- Select the affected game.
- Open its properties, management, or installation menu.
- Choose Verify files, Repair, or the equivalent option.
- Let the launcher replace damaged or missing files.
- Restart the launcher and test the game.
If the launcher has no repair function, uninstall and reinstall the game from that launcher or from the original installation media. Back up save files first if they are not synchronized through the launcher.

Fix 2: check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software can remove a game DLL if it detects suspicious behavior or believes the file has been modified. Quarantine is possible, but it is not proof that the file is safe or that antivirus caused every missing-DLL error.

- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Expand recent detections.
- Look for an event naming
nvgsa.x64.dllor the affected game. - Read the detection name and file path carefully.
Restore or allow the file only when all of these conditions are true:
- The game came from a legitimate launcher or original installation media.
- The detected path is the game’s own installation directory.
- You have checked that the detection is a false positive.
- The game files have not been modified by an untrusted mod or unofficial copy.
If the detection identifies a genuine threat, do not restore it. Remove the game, run a full Windows Security scan, and reinstall it from the official source. If the file disappears again immediately after verification, check antivirus history, third-party optimizer software, and recent mods before repeatedly restoring it.
Fix 3: remove mods and verify again
A mod can overwrite or replace a game DLL. This is especially relevant when the game worked before a mod installation, graphics tweak, executable patch, or unofficial performance pack was added.
- Open the game’s installation directory.
- Remove or disable the most recently installed mod according to its own removal instructions.
- Do not delete unrelated files manually unless the mod documentation specifies them.
- Run the launcher’s file verification again.
- Start the game without the mod.
If the clean game starts, reinstall mods one at a time and test after each change. Keep the original game copy supplied by the launcher rather than using a DLL from a third-party download page.

Fix 4: repair by reinstalling the game
Reinstall when verification does not restore the file, the launcher reports repeated corruption, or the installation contains incompatible replacements.

- Record the game title, launcher, and installation path.
- Back up local saves and configuration files.
- Uninstall the game through its launcher.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the game again from the official launcher or original media.
- Run any prerequisite installers included in the game folder.
- Start the game before adding mods or custom files.
A clean reinstall is also appropriate when the error says:
NvGsa.x64.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
That wording usually indicates that the DLL is damaged, incompatible with the executable, or from the wrong game version. Restore the matching game files rather than trying to register or replace the file globally.
Understand the 64-bit requirement
The .x64.dll suffix indicates a 64-bit build. It must be loaded by a compatible 64-bit game executable.
Do not solve this error by copying a 32-bit DLL into the game folder. Do not mix a file from one game with a file from another, and do not use a copy from a different release unless the game’s own launcher supplies it.
The correct location is normally the directory used by the game, commonly the main installation folder or a path such as:

The exact directory varies by game. The launcher’s verification process knows where the file belongs.
Fix 5: investigate NVIDIA drivers only for broader graphics problems
A normal NVIDIA driver update should not be expected to restore a game-local copy of nvgsa.x64.dll. Reinstall the NVIDIA driver when you also have graphics driver crashes, display problems, repeated GPU errors, or several games failing after a driver change.
For a manual driver repair:
- Right-click Start and choose Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click your NVIDIA adapter and choose Properties.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Use Roll Back Driver if the problem began immediately after a recent driver update and the button is available.
- Otherwise, download the correct driver through NVIDIA’s official driver selector.
- Choose a clean installation option when the installer provides one.
- Restart Windows and test the affected game.

Do not use Device Manager to search Windows for nvgsa.x64.dll. Windows system-driver repair is not a substitute for restoring a missing game file.
Fix 6: repair Windows components only when other symptoms exist
nvgsa.x64.dll is generally not a Windows system file, so System File Checker will not normally restore it. Use Windows repair commands only if you also see damaged system components, failed Windows features, unexplained application failures, or other corruption symptoms.

- Right-click Start.
- Choose Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the game files again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, and SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command is a normal source for a game-local NVIDIA-associated DLL.
Repeatedly running these commands without knowing what changed can waste time. Windows Features, Visual C++, DirectX, and .NET
Turning Windows Features on or off is not a direct repair for nvgsa.x64.dll. Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET may fix a separate prerequisite error, but none is an official replacement for this DLL.

If the game includes prerequisite installers:
- Open the game’s installation folder.
- Look for folders named
Redist,Support,CommonRedist, orPrerequisites. - Run the installers supplied with that game.
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the game files again.
Install only the prerequisite versions supplied by the official game installation or Microsoft. If the error specifically names a missing Visual C++ runtime, repair that runtime separately rather than expecting it to provide nvgsa.x64.dll.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
A downloaded DLL may contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to another game version, or have been altered. Even a clean-looking copy often fails because the real problem is a damaged installation, a missing companion file, a blocked quarantine event, or an incompatible mod.
The safe sources are the affected game’s launcher, its original installation media, and official support instructions.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Those directories are for system components and shared Windows files. Placing a game DLL there can create conflicts and does not repair the game’s expected local dependency.
Do not run regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering OLE and ActiveX components. Ordinary game runtime DLLs usually do not expose the required DllRegisterServer entry point. Registering this file is therefore unlikely to help and may produce a “module was loaded but the entry point was not found” or “not self-registerable” error.
Do not use System Restore as a DLL download method
System Restore can roll back system settings and installed programs after a recent change, but it is not a clean source for a game DLL. Consider it only when the failure began immediately after a major system or software change and normal game repair has failed.
If nvgsa.x64.dll is still missing
Collect these details before contacting game or launcher support:
- The complete error text
- The game title and launcher
- The executable named in the message
- The game installation path
- Whether the file exists anywhere in that directory
- Whether verification reported repaired files
- Any recent update, mod, driver change, or disk cleanup
- The antivirus detection name and quarantine action
- Whether other games show similar errors
- Whether the message says “not designed to run on Windows” or “Bad Image”
If every reinstall immediately loses the file, investigate antivirus logs, optimizer software, disk errors, and malware. If only one game fails, continue treating this as a game-installation problem. If multiple games and unrelated applications fail, then broaden the investigation to Windows integrity, storage health, and graphics-driver stability.
