That is an executive’s description, not an independently verified performance ranking: Nintendo confirms the chip is custom-made by NVIDIA, but its published specs do not name a retail chip model or disclose GPU core counts, clock speeds, or benchmark results.
What Jensen Huang said about the Switch 2 chip
Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice page lists a special video dated June 3, 2025, about the console’s custom NVIDIA processor, with Huang identified as the speaker. HotHardware reported on the video the following day and transcribed his remarks:

“The chip inside Nintendo Switch 2 is unlike anything we’ve built before. It brings together three breakthroughs. The most advanced graphics ever in a mobile device. Full hardware ray tracing, high dynamic range for brighter highlights and deeper shadows. And an architecture that supports backward compatibility, dedicated AI processors to sharpen, animate, and enhance gameplay in real time; and it’s ultra low power.”
Huang’s wording describes NVIDIA’s view of its work. “The most advanced graphics ever in a mobile device” is not a third-party comparison supported by published benchmark results. Nintendo’s technical specifications confirm a custom NVIDIA processor, but do not publish a chip model or detailed GPU specifications.

What Nintendo’s published specs establish
Nintendo’s current specifications describe what the console and its outputs support, not a guarantee that every game will use the maximum resolution or frame rate.
| Feature | Nintendo-published specification |
|---|---|
| Processor | Custom processor made by NVIDIA; no retail model, GPU core count, or clock speed is listed. |
| Built-in display | 7.9-inch LCD, 1920×1080, with HDR10 and variable refresh rate (VRR) up to 120 Hz. |
| TV output | Up to 3840×2160 at 60 fps; 120 fps is supported at 1920×1080 or 2560×1440. |
| Handheld and tabletop resolution | Up to 1920×1080. |
| Internal storage | 256 GB UFS. |
The figures above are from Nintendo’s specifications accessed in 2026. Resolution and frame-rate support depends on the game and compatible display. Nintendo says 4K output is capped at 60 fps. It also notes that TV-mode VRR support was added in a system update released September 10, 2026; see its Switch 2 system features page.

Does Switch 2 support 4K or 120 fps?
Yes, in supported configurations: Nintendo lists TV output up to 4K (3840×2160) at 60 fps, and support for up to 120 fps at 1920×1080 or 2560×1440. These are console output capabilities, not assurances that a particular game renders at those settings. The display must also support the relevant resolution and refresh rate. Handheld and tabletop resolution tops out at 1920×1080.

Nintendo’s published figures establish the Switch 2’s display and output capabilities, but they do not provide a like-for-like benchmark against the original Switch. Huang’s praise alone cannot establish a measured performance ranking, and the official spec page does not disclose enough chip detail to make a precise hardware comparison. A meaningful comparison would need named games and comparable play modes, resolution, frame rate, image reconstruction, ray-tracing features, and independent measurements.
