Nvidia GeForce Game Ready Driver 576.02 was a major stability-focused update released on April 16, 2025. It addressed Windows 11 24H2 instability, RTX 50-series black screens, DLSS Frame Generation crashes, display-wake failures and numerous game-specific problems. It was not, however, a universal FPS upgrade—and it is no longer the default driver to install on a new Windows 11 system in 2026 because Nvidia released several later versions, including corrective driver 576.28.
Use 576.02 today mainly for historical testing, a known application requirement or targeted troubleshooting. For a fresh installation, check Nvidia’s current driver for your exact GPU and operating system first.

What was Nvidia Driver 576.02?
Nvidia GeForce Game Ready Driver 576.02 WHQL was released on April 16, 2025, for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. It belonged to Nvidia’s 575 driver branch and added official support for the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti.
The Windows 11 package was approximately 857 MB. Nvidia’s release notes also list CUDA 12.9, Vulkan 1.4 and OpenCL 3.0 support for Maxwell and newer GPUs. WHQL certification indicates that the package passed Microsoft-related driver testing requirements; it does not guarantee that the driver will be trouble-free on every PC.

Why 576.02 mattered
576.02 arrived during the early GeForce RTX 50-series rollout, when some users were reporting serious crashes, black screens and display-output problems. Nvidia described fixes affecting Windows 11 24H2, RTX 50-series stability, DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation and several display configurations.
Its importance was therefore primarily about reliability and compatibility:
- Fewer crashes, hard hangs and device-removal errors.
- Improved behavior on Windows 11 24H2.
- Fewer blank-screen and display-handshake failures.
- Better compatibility with DLSS Frame Generation and Multi-Frame Generation.
- Fixes for conflicts involving G-SYNC, V-SYNC and Smooth Motion.
That does not mean every supported GeForce card received a measurable performance increase. A system that previously crashed, stuttered or lost synchronization may feel substantially better after a fix, but that is different from raising the underlying rendering performance.

Gaming fixes included in 576.02
Nvidia listed a broad collection of game-specific fixes. The most relevant entries included:
- Fortnite: fixed random crashes.
- The First Berserker: Khazan: addressed
DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVEDcrashes. - Star Wars Outlaws: fixed freezing after the game remained idle for more than five minutes.
- Monster Hunter Wilds: fixed a crash after accepting a quest with DLSS Frame Generation enabled.
- inZOI: addressed “GPU crashed or D3D Device Removed” errors.
- Overwatch 2: fixed stutter associated with V-SYNC.
- Hellblade 2: addressed increased aliasing with TSR and crashes involving Smooth Motion.
- The Last of Us Part I: fixed crashes with Smooth Motion.
- Control: fixed flickering corruption.
- Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection: addressed artifacts while collecting treasures.
The release also included fixes for stability problems involving DLSS Frame Generation with G-SYNC and V-SYNC or frame-generation conflicts in DLSS 4 games. A game-specific fix matters most if you play that title with the affected feature enabled; it should not be treated as proof of a general improvement across every game.
Windows 11, RTX 50-series and display fixes
Windows 11 24H2 stability
The release notes identify a fix for stability issues when using Windows 11 24H2, listed under Nvidia bug number 5160948. Nvidia also addressed PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA bug checks that could occur while playing games with DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation enabled.
These entries confirm that Nvidia fixed reported driver problems. They do not prove that every crash, black screen or blue screen on Windows 11 24H2 was caused by the Nvidia driver.
RTX 50-series crashes and black screens
576.02 addressed RTX 50-series underflow-related crashes, general system hangs and several black-screen conditions during driver installation or Windows startup. For affected owners, these fixes could be more valuable than any theoretical FPS change.

It did not eliminate every RTX 50-series display problem. Nvidia still listed some black-screen cases as open issues, and later releases added more corrections.
DisplayPort, HDR and multiple monitors
The release addressed failures involving:
- Displays that failed to wake after extended sleep.
- DisplayPort 2.1 link-rate instability.
- Blank screens at high refresh rates.
- HDR-related blank screens.
- Daisy-chained displays.
- Some multiple-monitor configurations.
These problems can also involve monitor firmware, cables, GPU firmware, VBIOS, signal quality or Windows display settings. A release-note fix is not a guarantee that every similar symptom will disappear after installation.
Did Driver 576.02 increase gaming performance?
Not reliably or universally. Nvidia’s official documentation presents 576.02 as a bug-fix, compatibility and stability release rather than a broad FPS-boost driver. There is no supported basis for promising a fixed percentage improvement on every GPU or game.
Some players may see smoother frame delivery or restored performance when a crash, shader problem, synchronization fault or background instability was interfering with gameplay. Others may see no change in average FPS. Results depend on the GPU, game, Windows build, resolution, graphics settings, DLSS mode, Frame Generation, G-SYNC and V-SYNC configuration.
If you compare drivers, use the same game scene and settings, restart Windows before each run, and record average FPS, 1% lows, frame-time consistency, crashes, freezes, GPU clocks and temperatures. Run several repeat tests. The first launch after a driver change may stutter while shader caches are rebuilt, so do not judge the permanent result from one initial run.

Which graphics cards did 576.02 support?
The release notes cover a wide range of desktop and notebook products, including:
- GeForce RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, 5070 and 5060 Ti.
- RTX 4090 through RTX 4060.
- RTX 3090 through RTX 3050.
- RTX 20-series cards.
- GTX 16-series and GTX 10-series cards.
- Various older GTX and GT notebook GPUs.
Notebook owners should check their computer manufacturer before installing Nvidia’s generic package. Optimus or Advanced Optimus, custom power limits, display routing, VBIOS, vendor firmware and Modern Standby behavior can make a laptop-specific driver more appropriate than the standard Nvidia release.
Problems that remained after 576.02
Nvidia’s release notes listed these open issues:
- RTX 50-series notebooks could show a black screen after resuming from Modern Standby.
- Cyberpunk 2077 could crash in Photo Mode with path tracing enabled.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 could crash shortly after starting in DX12 mode; Vulkan did not show the same issue in Nvidia’s notes.
There was also an important follow-up. Nvidia released 576.28 on April 30, 2025, fixing several problems introduced or exposed by 576.02, including Dead Island 2 crashes, shader-compilation crashes, shadow flicker, grey-screen crashes with multiple monitors, Horizon Forbidden West freezes, additional Red Dead Redemption 2 DX12 crashes, DisplayPort 2.1 HDR blank screens and lower idle GPU clock speeds after updating to 576.02.

Should you install 576.02 now?
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Fresh Windows 11 installation in 2026 | Use Nvidia’s current compatible driver, not 576.02. |
| Researching or reproducing a 2025 configuration | Use 576.02 if matching the original software environment matters. |
| A specific application requires 576.02 | Install it only after confirming the requirement and keeping a recovery path. |
| Your PC already runs 576.02 normally | Do not change solely because of an unverified promise of higher FPS; compare later release notes and test carefully. |
| Dead Island 2, shader crashes, grey screens or related problems began after 576.02 | Test a later driver, beginning with the corrective release line or Nvidia’s current recommended version. |
| RTX 50-series laptop has Modern Standby black screens | Check the laptop manufacturer’s driver, BIOS and firmware, as well as later Nvidia releases. |
Download drivers from Nvidia’s official driver search page, the Nvidia App or your laptop manufacturer’s support page. Do not install 576.02 merely because it is marked WHQL or because a headline describes it as essential.

How to install the driver safely
Before installation
- Press Windows key + X, open Device Manager, expand Display adapters and record the exact GPU model.
- Check the installed driver version in the Nvidia App or Nvidia Control Panel.
- Search Windows for Create a restore point, open System Properties, select the system drive and choose Create.
- Record custom Nvidia Control Panel settings and game settings for DLSS, Frame Generation, G-SYNC and V-SYNC.
- Save overclocking or undervolting profiles and ensure roughly 1.5 times the driver download size is available for extraction and temporary files.
Standard installation
- Download the correct package from Nvidia’s official driver page.
- Run the downloaded executable and allow it to extract.
- Accept the license agreement.
- Follow the Nvidia Installer prompts.
- Restart Windows after installation, even if an immediate restart is not required.
Express installation is quicker and retains the existing configuration. Custom installation lets you select components and may offer a clean-install option, depending on the installer version. A clean installation can remove conflicting or corrupted driver components, but it resets settings and cannot repair faulty cables, monitors, GPU firmware, VBIOS or unrelated Windows problems.
What to do if installation causes a black screen
A black screen after a driver update can have several causes, including an installation failure, DisplayPort or HDMI handshake problems, HDR or high-refresh-rate incompatibility, monitor firmware, VBIOS or a Windows boot issue.
- Wait several minutes in case Windows is still configuring the display.
- Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to restart the graphics driver.
- Try another monitor input or cable.
- Disconnect secondary monitors.
- Enter the Windows Recovery Environment.
- Choose Startup Settings → Safe Mode.
- Roll back or remove the driver from Safe Mode.
- Install a known-good later or earlier driver.
If games still crash after installation, verify the game files, install pending Windows updates, temporarily remove GPU, RAM or CPU overclocks and test with overlays disabled. Also test DLSS Frame Generation and Smooth Motion separately. Review Reliability Monitor and Event Viewer, but do not assume that every DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED, TDR event or black screen is automatically a driver fault.
Bottom line on Nvidia 576.02
Driver 576.02 was an important April 2025 stability release for users affected by Windows 11 24H2 problems, RTX 50-series crashes, black screens, DLSS instability and display-output bugs. It was not a universal performance upgrade, and Nvidia’s later 576.28 release corrected several issues associated with it. In 2026, treat 576.02 as a targeted or archival driver—not the normal first choice for a new installation.
