“nvrsko.dll is missing,” “The program can’t start because nvrsko.dll is missing from your computer,” and “Error loading nvrsko.dll. The specified module could not be found” are common forms of this error. nvrsko.dll is an old NVIDIA language-resource file, so the safest fix is to identify the program requesting it and repair or reinstall that complete NVIDIA driver or application package.
Do not begin by downloading a loose copy of nvrsko.dll, copying it into System32, or running regsvr32. The documented file belongs to an old NVIDIA display-driver family, not to Windows, DirectX, Visual C++, or .NET.

What is nvrsko.dll?
nvrsko.dll is identified as the NVIDIA Korean language resource library. Its historical association is the NVIDIA Compatible Windows 2000 Display driver, Version 29.42, published by NVIDIA Corporation.

The nvr beginning reflects its NVIDIA display-driver software family. The file is a language resource library rather than a general Windows component. Its job was to provide Korean-language resources to part of the old NVIDIA display software.

The documented association dates to the Windows 2000 and Windows XP era. That matters on Windows 10 and Windows 11: a current NVIDIA graphics installation should not normally require this file. If a modern computer reports the error, the caller is more likely to be:
- An old NVIDIA utility or display component left behind after an upgrade
- A legacy application that expects an older NVIDIA installation
- An incomplete or damaged installation
- A startup entry, scheduled task, or launcher pointing to removed software
- An unrelated application with a stale dependency
- Malware using a genuine-looking NVIDIA filename
A filename alone does not prove that a file is genuine. The file path, digital signature, parent software, and installer source all matter.
Why Windows reports that nvrsko.dll is missing
Windows loads a DLL when an executable requests it. The loader searches locations associated with the application and its dependencies. If the expected file is absent, blocked, incompatible, damaged, or unable to load one of its own dependencies, the application may fail before its window appears.
The wording “The specified module could not be found” is especially easy to misunderstand. It can mean that the named DLL is absent, but it can also mean that another DLL required by it is missing.
Likely causes include:
-
A damaged NVIDIA installation
An update or uninstall removed part of the old driver package. -
An incomplete uninstall
The main NVIDIA software is gone, but a startup entry or old application still requests one of its files. -
A damaged application
A game or desktop program may include an old NVIDIA-related component and need its own repair or reinstallation.Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed or isolated the file. -
Architecture or version mismatch
The historically documented file is a 32-bit DLL. A 32-bit program may need a matching file supplied by its original software, even when Windows itself is 64-bit. -
A missing dependency
The file may exist but fail because another required module is unavailable. -
A stale or malicious reference
A startup item can continue requesting a file after the parent program has been removed, or malware can imitate an old NVIDIA component.Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Find the program that is requesting nvrsko.dll
Repairing the wrong software wastes time. First record exactly when the error appears and which executable is named.
Check the error dialog
Read the complete message and note:
- The executable name
- The application or game that was opening
- Whether the error occurred during Windows startup, sign-in, driver installation, or application launch
- Any path shown in the dialog
If the message appears immediately after signing in, suspect a startup entry or scheduled task. If it appears only when opening one program, repair that program before changing Windows.
Check Event Viewer
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Choose Filter Current Log in the right-hand pane.
- Filter for recent Error events.
- Open entries created at the time of the failure.
- Record the faulting application name and any path or module information.
Event Viewer may not identify every dependency, but it can distinguish an old application from an NVIDIA startup component.
Inspect startup entries
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for NVIDIA entries, old display utilities, or unknown programs.
- Right-click a suspicious entry and choose Open file location, when available.
- Record the path before disabling anything.
- Disable only an entry you recognize as obsolete or unnecessary.
- Restart Windows and check whether the message returns.
Do not delete an unknown startup item solely because its name contains NVIDIA. Investigate its file path and signature first.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the parent NVIDIA software
This is the most likely durable fix when the caller is an NVIDIA utility or an old display-driver component.
If the NVIDIA software is listed in Windows
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for NVIDIA.
- Open the menu beside the relevant NVIDIA application.
- Choose Modify, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what Windows provides.
- If a repair option exists, complete it and restart.
- If repair is unavailable, uninstall the obsolete component.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the complete package from NVIDIA’s official support and download pages or from the computer manufacturer’s recovery media.
Do not mix a single DLL from one driver generation with a different NVIDIA package. The installer must provide the correct files, dependencies, registry information, and architecture together.
If the error began after a current NVIDIA driver update, use the supported driver package for the exact graphics hardware and Windows version. Do not assume that a current 64-bit driver is a replacement for a historical 32-bit resource DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the caller is an old application
Repair the application instead of repairing Windows:
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Find the application that produces the error.
- Open its menu.
- Select Advanced options, if available.
- Choose Repair and test the application.
- If Repair does not help, choose Reset only if you understand that it may remove application data.
- If neither option exists, uninstall and reinstall the application from its original publisher or installation media.
Some older programs include their own display components. If the program is no longer supported on Windows 10 or Windows 11, reinstalling the DLL alone may not make it functional. The practical choices may be removing the obsolete application, using a supported replacement, or running the software in an appropriately isolated legacy environment.
Fix 2: Update or reinstall the graphics driver
Use this route when the error appears during graphics-driver installation, after a graphics update, or alongside display problems.
Check the installed adapter
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Double-click the NVIDIA adapter.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Record the provider, date, version, and whether Windows reports a problem.
If the adapter appears under Other devices or has a warning icon, the driver installation itself needs attention.
Update through Device Manager
- In Device Manager, right-click the NVIDIA adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Install any offered driver.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the program again.
Windows may not offer an old package needed by legacy software. For that situation, obtain the complete compatible driver from NVIDIA’s official support source or the computer manufacturer, not from a DLL repository.
Manually hunting through old packages, matching hardware identifiers, and repeating driver installs can be difficult when several components are outdated. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver problems and identify available driver updates; its full version performs the repair or installation. It is optional, and reinstalling the specific NVIDIA or application package remains the definitive fix when that package is the caller.
Reinstall the driver
If updating does not help:
- In Device Manager, right-click the NVIDIA adapter.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct complete driver package from NVIDIA or the computer manufacturer.
- Restart again.
- Launch the program that produced the error.
Use a clean-install option in the NVIDIA installer when it is offered and appropriate. A clean installation can replace damaged driver files, but it does not necessarily remove every third-party program that still requests an obsolete DLL.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed a file, but restoring it automatically is not safe.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Windows Security
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open any detection related to
nvrsko.dllor the parent NVIDIA program. - Review the detected path, threat name, and action.
- Do not choose Allow on device merely because the filename looks familiar.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The path belongs to a trusted NVIDIA installation
- The parent package came from NVIDIA, the computer manufacturer, or original application media
- The file has a valid signature where the package provides one
- A complete reinstall cannot replace it safely
- A current security scan does not identify the package as malicious
If the file was downloaded from an unknown DLL site, delete that copy rather than restoring it. A genuine NVIDIA filename can be copied, modified, or planted by malware. Never create an antivirus exclusion just to silence a missing-DLL message.

Run a full scan after dealing with an unexpected file in a startup or temporary directory. If the detection returns, remove the associated application or startup entry and investigate the parent executable.
Fix 4: Check architecture, location, and dependencies
The historical nvrsko.dll association is with old 32-bit display software. That does not mean you should manually copy a 32-bit DLL into a Windows folder.
A 64-bit edition of Windows can run many 32-bit applications through its compatibility subsystem. The application still needs the correct 32-bit files in the location expected by its own package. Conversely, placing a file in a system directory does not make it a valid substitute for a missing application component.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Check the following:
- Is the failing program 32-bit or 64-bit?
- Is the installed NVIDIA software intended for that program and Windows version?
- Is the file in the application’s own installation directory?
- Is the file blocked by antivirus or Windows security controls?
- Does the file have the expected publisher and signature?
- Is another dependency missing?
If the file exists but the error remains, do not assume the filename is enough. The file may be the wrong version, loaded from the wrong directory, damaged, or unable to load a dependency.
Windows does not use regsvr32 to repair ordinary DLL loading. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain ActiveX or COM components. A language-resource library generally has no reason to expose that function.
Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor’s instructions specifically require registration for that exact DLL. Running it against nvrsko.dll will usually fail or accomplish nothing, and it will not restore a missing parent driver package.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and SFC are useful when Windows itself is damaged. They are not normally the primary repair for a third-party NVIDIA payload, so run them as a fallback rather than expecting them to restore nvrsko.dll.

- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command is a replacement for reinstalling an NVIDIA driver or an application that owns nvrsko.dll.
Manually interpreting DISM and SFC output, then repeating repairs without knowing what changed, can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows repair issues and show what needs attention; its full version performs the repair. It is optional, and it cannot replace reinstalling the specific NVIDIA or application package that owns this file.
If both commands report no corruption, that result is consistent with nvrsko.dll being an NVIDIA file rather than a Windows system file. Return to identifying the caller.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a driver, application, or system change and a suitable restore point exists.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs, if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
- Test the affected application.
System Restore does not replace personal files, but it can remove recently installed drivers and applications. If the problem began after a failed legacy driver installation, restoring to an earlier point is preferable to inserting an unknown DLL.
Fix 7: Remove an obsolete startup reference
If no installed application needs the file and the error appears at sign-in, the reference may be leftover software.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Review Startup apps.
- Disable the entry associated with the old NVIDIA component.
- Open Task Scheduler from the Start menu.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Inspect tasks that launch at sign-in or startup.
- Open suspicious tasks and check their Actions path.
- Disable a task only after confirming that it belongs to removed or obsolete software.
- Restart Windows.
If the launcher or executable is unknown, do not merely rename files or delete folders. Perform a security scan and identify the parent program first.
When an in-place Windows repair is appropriate
Consider Windows recovery or an in-place repair only when:
- Multiple unrelated applications report missing or damaged Windows files
- DISM and SFC cannot repair the component store
- Windows services, updates, or system components are failing broadly
- The issue began after serious system corruption
- The original application and NVIDIA packages are known to be intact
An in-place repair is not the normal solution for one missing NVIDIA language resource. Repair the parent software first. If the old program cannot run on modern Windows even after its complete package is restored, removing it or isolating it is safer than weakening Windows security to accommodate it.
Avoid these unsafe fixes
Do not:
- Download
nvrsko.dllfrom a random DLL download website - Copy an isolated DLL into
C:WindowsSystem32or another system directory - Replace a 32-bit file with a similarly named 64-bit file
- Use
regsvr32as a generic DLL repair command - Disable antivirus protection permanently
- Add an exclusion just because the file is missing
- Mix a file from an old driver with a current NVIDIA installation
- Assume SFC will repair every third-party driver file
An isolated download can contain malware, have the wrong architecture, be the wrong version, lack required dependencies, or simply hide the actual problem. The safe sources are the complete NVIDIA driver package, the computer manufacturer’s official recovery or driver package, and the original application publisher or installation media.
Frequently asked questions
Is nvrsko.dll part of Windows?
No evidence supports that. It is identified with NVIDIA display-driver software, specifically an old Windows 2000/XP-era NVIDIA package. Windows 10 and Windows 11 do not normally need it as a system component.
Is nvrsko.dll a modern NVIDIA driver dependency?
The documented association is historical. A current NVIDIA installation should not normally require it. If a current computer reports the error, identify the executable requesting it instead of assuming the current graphics driver is missing the file.
Should I download nvrsko.dll to fix the error?
No. A loose DLL may be malicious, incompatible, incorrectly located, or unable to resolve other dependencies. Repair or reinstall the complete parent application or driver package.
Why does the error say the specified module could not be found when the file exists?
The named file may depend on another missing DLL. It may also be blocked, damaged, the wrong architecture, or in a directory that Windows does not search for that application.
Will SFC restore nvrsko.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows system files. Since nvrsko.dll is associated with NVIDIA software, reinstalling the complete NVIDIA or application package is the appropriate repair.
Does a 64-bit Windows computer need a 64-bit nvrsko.dll?
Not necessarily. The historical file is associated with 32-bit software, and 64-bit Windows can run many 32-bit applications. The required architecture is determined by the calling program and must come from its correct installer.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if the error appears with no NVIDIA software installed?
Check Startup apps, scheduled tasks, Event Viewer, and security logs. The reference may be an orphaned legacy entry, an old bundled application, or malware using an NVIDIA-like filename.
What if reinstalling NVIDIA does not help?
Identify the exact caller and full path. If the caller is an old application, repair or reinstall that application. If it is an orphaned startup entry, remove the obsolete entry. If the file is detected as malware, follow the security product’s removal guidance instead of restoring it.
When should I use System Restore?
Use it when the failure began after a recent driver or application change and a restore point predates the problem. It is safer than substituting an unknown DLL when the system previously worked correctly.
Is the old NVIDIA 29.42 package suitable for Windows 11?
It was designed for Windows 2000 and Windows XP-era systems. Modern Windows may reject its installer, unsupported driver architecture, or legacy components. Do not force installation solely to obtain one DLL. If the old application is essential, use a supported replacement or an appropriately isolated legacy environment.
