The important distinction is that the driver did not, by itself, deliver every DLSS 4 feature: Indiana Jones also required Bethesda’s separate Update 3, released on February 20, while Multi Frame Generation remains exclusive to GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs.
What GeForce driver 572.42 includes
Driver 572.42 is a WHQL release for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. Nvidia lists the download at 844.71 MB. It is available through the NVIDIA App or from the official driver download page.

The release adds Game Ready support for:
- Avowed
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and its then-upcoming DLSS 4 update
- Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
- Additional DLSS feature support for Wuthering Waves
Nvidia also validated five new G-SYNC Compatible displays and added Optimal Playable Settings profiles for Avowed, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. The company’s full announcement is available on its GeForce news page.

For the Steam edition, Nvidia also documented DLSS 4 overrides through the NVIDIA App. On compatible systems, those overrides can provide:
- DLSS Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50-series GPUs
- The newer DLSS Frame Generation model on RTX 40- and RTX 50-series GPUs
- The transformer-based Super Resolution model
- DLAA
Nvidia says the NVIDIA App can apply these types of overrides across more than 140 supported games. However, the documented Avowed workflow specifically refers to the Steam version. Availability may differ for the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass editions.
How to enable the Avowed overrides
Nvidia’s documented requirements are a Game Ready driver version 572.16 or newer and NVIDIA App version 11.0.2.312 or newer. The game must also be installed and recognized by the app.

- Update the GeForce driver and NVIDIA App.
- Open the NVIDIA App and select Avowed in the games list.
- Open the game’s graphics or driver-override options.
- Enable the DLSS 4 options exposed for your GPU.
- On an RTX 50-series card, enable Multi Frame Generation if it is available.
- Restart the game and confirm the settings in-game or in the NVIDIA App.
NVIDIA App labels can change between releases, so the exact menu wording may not match this sequence permanently. Nvidia’s support article lists the version requirements.
Indiana Jones required a separate game update
Driver 572.42 made the system ready for the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle update, but installing the driver alone did not activate the complete feature set. Bethesda released Update 3 on February 20, 2025—one week after the driver.
Update 3 added:
- DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation
- DLSS Ray Reconstruction
- Transformer-based DLSS Super Resolution
- Transformer-based DLAA
- Fully ray-traced shadows from all light sources
Players should therefore install both the driver and the game update. Bethesda’s Update 3 notes provide the game-side details.

The driver itself supports a much wider range of hardware, including RTX 20-, RTX 30-, RTX 40- and RTX 50-series cards as well as older GTX models. That does not mean every supported GPU receives every DLSS feature. GTX users can install the driver, for example, but cannot use DLSS.

DLSS 4 includes Super Resolution, Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, DLAA and newer transformer-based AI models for image quality. The feature most associated with RTX 50-series cards is Multi Frame Generation, which can generate up to three additional frames for each traditionally rendered frame, according to Nvidia.
Generated frames are not the same as three additional fully rendered frames. A higher displayed frame rate does not automatically provide proportionally lower input latency. Base rendering performance, latency, resolution, ray-tracing load and the game’s implementation still matter. Artifacts can also appear around fast motion, particles, interface elements or newly revealed objects.

Nvidia’s performance claims
Nvidia reported the following results under its own test configurations, so these figures are vendor claims rather than independent benchmarks:
- Avowed: up to a 3x frame-rate multiplier at 4K with maximum settings and ray tracing on RTX 50-series GPUs. Nvidia also reported the RTX 5090 exceeding 340 frames per second at 4K, with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 exceeding 320 FPS at 1440p in its stated configuration. Its 1080p example reached up to 487 FPS on the RTX 5090.
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: an average 4x performance multiplier at 4K with full ray tracing on RTX 50-series GPUs. Nvidia reported more than 260 FPS at 4K on the RTX 5090, more than 235 FPS at 1440p on the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, and more than 300 FPS at 1080p on the RTX 5090, with peaks up to 360 FPS.
Those results should not be treated as guarantees for every PC. CPU limits, VRAM, power limits, laptop cooling, game patches and the difference between traditionally rendered and generated frames can materially change the result.

Other fixes in 572.42
Nvidia’s driver notes list fixes for:
- Valorant crashing at startup
- Final Fantasy XVI freezing when exiting
- A Delta Force performance regression on some systems with Resizable BAR enabled
- Low 3DMark DXR Feature Test scores on Blackwell GPUs
- A compatibility problem caused by mismatched current and updated DLL files
The DLL fix is relevant to DLSS coverage, but it does not guarantee that every installation issue will disappear. Game updates, shader caches, overlays, mods, NVIDIA App versions and per-game settings can still affect behavior.
How to install the driver
- Download GeForce Game Ready Driver 572.42 from the Nvidia driver page, or update through the NVIDIA App.
- Confirm that the PC uses 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Install the driver and restart if prompted.
- Update the relevant game before checking its graphics menu.
- Enable DLSS, Frame Generation, Reflex, Ray Reconstruction or ray tracing only where your GPU and the game expose those options.
For Indiana Jones, make sure the game has received Update 3. For Avowed, update the NVIDIA App as well if you want to try the documented Steam-version overrides. Recording existing driver settings or creating a restore point is sensible on a production or heavily customized PC, although a clean install is not universally required.
Should you install 572.42?
- Update now if you are playing Avowed, Indiana Jones, Civilization VII or Wuthering Waves, need one of the listed fixes, or have an RTX 50-series card.
- RTX 40 owners can benefit from the updated Frame Generation model and transformer-based image-quality features, but not Multi Frame Generation.
- RTX 20/30 owners may still use supported DLSS features in individual games, but should not expect Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation.
- Laptop owners should consider the manufacturer’s driver if hybrid graphics, power management or display switching is a concern. Laptop GPU performance also depends heavily on its power limit and cooling.
- Users with stable work systems who are not playing the affected games have less reason to install immediately and may prefer to wait for their normal validation cycle.
The main upgrade message is therefore narrower than “DLSS 4 for every GeForce.” Driver 572.42 improves readiness across a broad range of cards, but Multi Frame Generation requires RTX 50-series hardware, while the complete Indiana Jones feature set also required Bethesda’s February 20 game update.
