Short answer: NVIDIA’s push into Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC ecosystem is primarily about RTX Spark, a new Windows PC platform that combines an NVIDIA Grace CPU with a Blackwell RTX GPU. The first systems are planned for fall 2026 from ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface, and MSI.
That does not mean every existing GeForce RTX laptop or desktop automatically becomes a Copilot+ PC. Microsoft’s designation still depends on requirements including a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) capable of at least 40 TOPS, plus minimum memory, storage, and other system qualifications.

What NVIDIA and Microsoft actually announced
The announcement is easy to summarize incorrectly as “discrete GeForce RTX GPUs are coming to Copilot+ PCs.” The more precise explanation is that NVIDIA and Microsoft are introducing RTX Spark: an NVIDIA-designed PC platform intended to bring local AI, gaming, creation, and workstation-style workloads to slimmer Windows systems.

The platform also includes fifth-generation Tensor Cores with FP4 capability and connects the CPU and GPU through NVIDIA’s NVLink-C2C interconnect. NVIDIA says RTX Spark systems are intended to join the Copilot+ PC category, but individual products still need to meet Microsoft’s qualification requirements.

RTX Spark versus a conventional RTX gaming laptop
| Category | Existing RTX gaming PC | RTX Spark |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Usually Intel, AMD, or Qualcomm | NVIDIA Grace CPU |
| GPU | Typically a discrete GeForce RTX GPU | Integrated Blackwell RTX platform |
| Copilot+ status | Depends on a qualifying NPU and OEM certification | Intended to join the Copilot+ category |
| Windows gaming compatibility | Established PC ecosystem | Requires validation across games, drivers, and software |
| Availability | Products are available now | First systems planned for fall 2026 |
| Pricing | Varies by product and configuration | Not announced in the primary announcements |
A normal gaming laptop pairs an Intel, AMD, or Qualcomm processor with a separate GeForce RTX GPU, system memory, storage, Windows, and an OEM-specific cooling system. RTX Spark instead tightly integrates NVIDIA’s Grace CPU and Blackwell GPU into one platform.
That approach could help manufacturers build compact systems with fast CPU–GPU data sharing and a unified memory design. It also introduces questions buyers cannot answer from the announcement alone: how much memory each model will have, how much power the GPU can sustain, whether memory is replaceable, how the systems behave on battery, and whether all Windows games and peripherals work as expected.

Does an existing GeForce RTX PC become a Copilot+ PC?
No automatic conversion should be assumed.
Microsoft’s current specifications define Copilot+ PCs around a dedicated NPU capable of at least 40 TOPS, along with at least 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Microsoft lists compatible processor families including AMD Ryzen AI 300 and 400 series, Intel Core Ultra 200V and 300V series, and Snapdragon X series. Check the current Microsoft requirements because qualification and supported experiences can change.
A discrete RTX GPU can accelerate AI applications, but GPU AI performance is not, by itself, the Copilot+ qualification. Microsoft distinguishes the roles of the CPU, GPU, and NPU, with Copilot+ experiences tied to qualifying hardware and supported Windows software.
It is also useful to separate three ideas:
- Windows Copilot is available more broadly, subject to factors such as region, edition, account, and service requirements.
- Copilot+ experiences are restricted to qualifying Copilot+ PCs and may depend on Windows updates, language, region, and device configuration.
- NVIDIA RTX AI features can work across a wider range of RTX PCs and do not automatically grant Copilot+ branding.
Microsoft’s Copilot+ comparison guide explains the distinction between general Windows PCs and Copilot+ systems.

What gamers can buy now
Buyers do not need to wait for RTX Spark to get NVIDIA’s current gaming and AI features. Options available now include:
- GeForce RTX 50-series gaming laptops, ranging from RTX 5070 Laptop GPU systems to RTX 5090 Laptop GPU systems. Performance varies significantly with GPU wattage, cooling, VRAM, display resolution, and the OEM design. See NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series laptop guide.
- RTX 50-series desktop graphics cards and prebuilt PCs for higher sustained performance, upgradeability, and broad Windows compatibility.
- Conventional RTX laptops that support local AI applications without carrying Copilot+ branding.
- AMD, Intel, or Snapdragon Copilot+ laptops for buyers who prioritize battery life, portability, and Windows AI features over demanding gaming.
Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC marketplace includes systems from multiple manufacturers, including gaming-oriented models such as the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16. But not every Copilot+ system has an NVIDIA GPU; many use integrated graphics.
Should you buy now or wait?
Buy an RTX gaming PC now if:
- You need a gaming machine immediately.
- Gaming performance and compatibility matter more than the Copilot+ label.
- You can choose a model with adequate VRAM, cooling, display quality, and GPU power.
- You rely on established launchers, mods, anti-cheat systems, peripherals, or CUDA applications.
Wait for RTX Spark if:
- You specifically want NVIDIA’s Grace-plus-Blackwell platform.
- Local AI, unified memory, or a compact system is a major priority.
- You can wait until fall 2026 or later.
- You are willing to wait for independent benchmarks and compatibility testing.
- You accept uncertainty about price, repairability, upgrades, and sustained gaming performance.
Choose a conventional Copilot+ PC if:
- Battery life and portability matter more than high-end gaming.
- You mainly play lighter games or use cloud gaming.
- You have confirmed that the model meets Microsoft’s NPU requirement and supports the features you need in your region and language.
- You do not depend on CUDA applications or high-end ray-traced gaming.
What reviewers need to test

- Price compared with conventional RTX laptops and desktops.
Unified memory may simplify CPU–GPU data sharing, especially for local AI models, but it may offer less flexibility than replaceable system RAM paired with dedicated GPU VRAM. Likewise, a high NPU TOPS rating says little about ray-traced gaming performance, while a CUDA-core count does not guarantee battery life.
The bottom line
RTX Spark could make Copilot+ PCs considerably more interesting to gamers by combining NVIDIA gaming hardware, local AI acceleration, and a compact CPU–GPU platform. But the important news is not that every GeForce RTX PC has suddenly become a Copilot+ PC. The important news is that new certified systems built around RTX Spark are planned for fall 2026.
Until prices, configurations, benchmarks, thermals, battery results, and compatibility are known, RTX Spark is a platform to watch—not a reason to delay every purchase. Buy an existing RTX system if you need proven Windows gaming performance now; choose a conventional Copilot+ PC if battery life and Windows AI features are the priority; wait for RTX Spark if its integrated NVIDIA design is specifically what you want.
