Nvidia reported an average 2.4× output-frame-rate multiplier at 4K with maximum settings in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl when DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Frame Generation were enabled. Its example showed an RTX 4070 rising from 30 FPS to 70 FPS.
That is a real Nvidia result, announced on November 12, 2024, before the game launched on November 20. It is not an independent benchmark or a guarantee that every RTX card, scene, or PC will run twice as fast.

What Nvidia actually claimed
Nvidia’s announcement covered S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 running on GeForce RTX 40-series desktop GPUs with the game’s settings maxed out. The reported multipliers were:
| Resolution | Nvidia’s reported result |
|---|---|
| 4K | 2.4× average output FPS |
| 1440p | Approximately 2×, with up to 145 FPS on its most powerful tested systems |
| 1080p | 1.9× average output FPS |
The figures combine DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Frame Generation, and Nvidia Reflex. Nvidia’s best-known example was an RTX 4070 at 4K maximum settings, increasing from 30 FPS to 70 FPS.

What “more than doubles” means mathematically
The RTX 4070 example is a rise of 40 displayed frames per second. Seventy divided by 30 is approximately 2.33×, or roughly a 133% increase over the starting figure. It is not a 233% increase.
Nvidia’s broader 4K figure is a separate 2.4× average multiplier. Nvidia did not provide one universal baseline and output number that can be applied to every graphics card, so the missing figures should not be reverse-engineered from the headline.
DLSS 3 is more than upscaling
The correct current terminology is DLSS 3, rather than “DLSS 3.0.” In this case, the name describes a group of technologies:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- DLSS Super Resolution renders the game internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs a higher-resolution image.
- DLSS Frame Generation uses rendered frames, motion information, and AI to insert additional frames between traditionally rendered frames.
- Nvidia Reflex coordinates CPU and GPU work to reduce system latency. Nvidia reported up to a 45% latency reduction in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, but that number is also Nvidia’s own result.
Consequently, “DLSS 3 doubles FPS” is an incomplete description. The 2.4× result is an output-FPS comparison with both Super Resolution and Frame Generation enabled.

Displayed FPS is not the same as rendered FPS
Frame Generation can make motion appear smoother by adding AI-generated frames, but those frames do not represent an additional complete update of the game simulation. The game’s underlying rendering, input sampling, and CPU work are not necessarily running at the displayed frame rate.
Three measurements matter:
- Base or rendered FPS: frames produced through the normal game-rendering pipeline.
- Output FPS: traditionally rendered frames plus generated frames.
- Input latency: the time between an action and its appearance on screen.
A higher output number can improve perceived smoothness without making controls feel as responsive as the same number of traditionally rendered frames. This is why Reflex is paired with Frame Generation, and why a low or unstable base frame rate can still feel poor.
Which GPUs benefit?
Nvidia’s original DLSS 3 Frame Generation announcement focused on RTX 40-series hardware. RTX 20- and RTX 30-series cards can use DLSS Super Resolution, but readers should not assume they receive the same Frame Generation behavior or the 2.4× result.
Non-Nvidia GPUs cannot use Nvidia DLSS. Radeon and Intel owners should instead evaluate the game’s other reconstruction options, including AMD FSR, Intel XeSS, and the game’s temporal reconstruction option, TSR.

The latest official system-requirements guide, updated August 3, 2026, lists these target configurations:
| Target | Listed graphics-class hardware |
|---|---|
| 1080p/30, Low | RTX 2060-class hardware |
| 1080p/60, Medium | RTX 2070 SUPER or RTX 4060 class |
| 1440p/60, High | RTX 4070 class |
| 2160p/60-plus, Epic | RTX 4080 class or Radeon RX 7900 XTX |
The guide also lists 32GB of RAM for the higher targets and 160GB of SSD storage for each preset tier. These are official target configurations, not guaranteed results for every system. GSC says its specifications were evaluated using TSR, DLSS, FSR, and XeSS, so they should not be interpreted as DLSS-only requirements.
When DLSS 3 is likely to help
Frame Generation is most compelling when an RTX 40-series GPU is the limiting component and the base game already runs at a reasonably stable frame rate—roughly 40–60 FPS or higher is a more useful starting point than an extremely low baseline. It is also more beneficial on a high-refresh display that can show the additional output frames.
Be cautious when the problem is caused by the CPU, NPC simulation, world streaming, shader compilation, or inconsistent frame times. Upscaling reduces GPU work, but it cannot remove every source of stutter. A 60 FPS counter can still hide uneven frame pacing, and a 30 FPS base experience may remain less responsive even if Frame Generation raises the displayed number.

How to configure and test it
- Update the graphics driver and restart the PC.
- Make sure the game is using the dedicated GPU, particularly on a laptop or a desktop with integrated graphics.
- Choose the intended resolution and screen mode.
- Enable DLSS Super Resolution.
- Enable Frame Generation if the GPU supports it.
- Confirm that Nvidia Reflex is enabled. GSC’s display-settings documentation says Reflex is enabled automatically when DLSS is enabled, but labels can change after updates.
- Start with Quality or Balanced rather than the most aggressive performance mode.
For a meaningful comparison, test the same location and scene in four configurations: native rendering or TSR, DLSS Super Resolution without Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution with Frame Generation, and the same setup with Reflex. Record base FPS, output FPS, frame-time consistency, latency, and visible artifacts—not just the average shown by an overlay.
If performance is still poor
- CPU limitation: Lower CPU-heavy settings or reduce background activity; Frame Generation cannot fix simulation or streaming bottlenecks.
- VRAM pressure: Lower texture quality and resolution if hitching or asset-streaming problems appear.
- Low responsiveness: Disable Frame Generation and compare the feel at the base frame rate.
- Visual artifacts: Check for ghosting, foliage instability, shimmering, and UI errors.
- Laptop limits: Connect AC power and check wattage, thermal throttling, and performance mode.
- Frame pacing: Use a frame-time graph; a high average FPS does not guarantee smooth delivery.
- System configuration: Update drivers, remove unnecessary overlays and recording tools, enable Game Mode, use a performance-oriented power plan, and consider current BIOS and chipset software.
- Display connection: On a desktop with integrated graphics, connect the monitor directly to the discrete GPU.
These steps align with GSC’s official PC optimization guidance.

Alternatives to Frame Generation
- Native rendering: The clearest reference for image quality, but the most demanding.
- TSR: A useful non-vendor baseline within the game.
- FSR: Relevant for Radeon and cross-vendor systems.
- XeSS: Relevant for Intel Arc and supported systems.
- DLSS Super Resolution alone: A compromise for RTX owners who want lower GPU load without generated-frame latency or artifacts.
- Lower settings or resolution: Often better for consistent frame times than relying entirely on generated frames.
Verdict
Nvidia’s “more than doubles” claim is accurate as a description of its measured configuration: a 2.4× average output-FPS multiplier at 4K maximum settings with DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation. It does not mean that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 renders twice as many conventional frames, nor that every RTX card and scene will match the result.
For an RTX 40-series owner with a stable, GPU-limited base rate, DLSS 3 can make a borderline high-resolution experience feel considerably smoother. Judge the setting by base FPS, latency, frame pacing, and image quality—not by the headline multiplier alone.
