NYT Connections puzzle #650, dated March 22, 2025, groups its 16 words into musical instruments, knickknacks, words beginning with tri-, and words abbreviated with T plus another letter. The answers below are spoilers. TechRadar’s guide was published March 21 and identifies the puzzle as Saturday, March 22.

Connections #650 answers for March 22

Here are the four groups and their words:

  • Yellow — Musical instruments: TAMBOURINE, THEREMIN, TIMPANI, TROMBONE
  • Green — Knickknack: TCHOTCHKE, THINGAMAJIG, TRIFLE, TRINKET
  • Blue — Words with the prefix meaning “three”: TRIANGLE, TRIDENT, TRILLION, TRILOBITE
  • Purple — Words abbreviated with “T” plus another letter: TELEVISION (TV), TOUCHDOWN (TD), TRADEMARK (TM), TUBERCULOSIS (TB)

How to work out the groups

Start with the instruments, but watch for TRIANGLE

TAMBOURINE, THEREMIN, TIMPANI, and TROMBONE make the musical-instrument group. TRIANGLE can look like it belongs with them, but this puzzle uses it in the group of words beginning with tri-.

Collect the TRI words

TRIANGLE, TRIDENT, TRILLION, and TRILOBITE begin with tri-, a prefix meaning “three.” Keeping TRIANGLE here avoids breaking up the instrument group.

Find the knickknack synonyms

TCHOTCHKE, THINGAMAJIG, TRIFLE, and TRINKET form the set labeled “Knickknack.” TRIFLE is the one to keep here rather than grouping it with the other TRI-starting words.

Use the abbreviations for the final group

The remaining words connect to familiar two-letter abbreviations that start with T: TELEVISION is TV, TOUCHDOWN is TD, TRADEMARK is TM, and TUBERCULOSIS is TB. The TechRadar guide notes that the last group can be solved by elimination.
