How the groups fit together
DESIST
ABSTAIN, AVOID, CEASE, and REFRAIN can all mean to stop or hold back from doing something. REFRAIN is the tricky fit: it can also suggest a repeated line in a song, but here it belongs with the other verbs.

BRIDGE, HEARTS, SPEED, and SPOONS are all card games. SPOONS may be the less obvious member, but it completes the category alongside the more familiar Bridge and Hearts.

ELEMENTS OF GREEK DRAMA
CHORUS, HERO, HUBRIS, and TRAGEDY are associated with Greek drama. These words can also evoke other contexts—CHORUS and HERO, for example, are not limited to theater—so the category depends on seeing the dramatic connection across all four.

The main solving trap
CHORUS, BRIDGE, and HOOK can suggest songwriting, and REFRAIN strengthens that apparent music connection. TechRadar contributor Johnny Dee describes considering a songwriting group as a wrong turn in his solve. The correct placement is to use REFRAIN with ABSTAIN, AVOID, and CEASE; the other words separate into the card-game, Greek-drama, and Peter Pan groups.
