To solve the vending machine clues in Borderlands 4, complete the Vend of the Line side mission: start by selling two green items and then two blue items, follow the three clue machines to uncover coordinates 33-1 96-8-W, and use the final machine to reach Vend Zane. If you want the missable All Things Vend achievement, perform an additional machine sequence after the boss and deliver the resulting picture to Zane.
Start Vend of the Line
Travel to Carcadia Burn, then the Ruined Sumplands and Carcadia Town. Talk to Penelope Streams, the Vault Gatherer near the vending machine, to begin the side mission. PowerPyx’s walkthrough says the mission unlocks after Main Mission 8, Siege and Destroy. Follow the quest prompt to inspect the signs on the back of the machine. PowerPyx’s Vend of the Line walkthrough (September 11, 2025) documents the mission sequence.

Open the first machine
At the starting machine, sell two green items, then two blue items. Keep that order. The screen changes when the sequence is accepted and marks three clue locations on your map.
Solve the three clue machines
Ruined Sumplands: restore power, then buy back the items
At the first clue location in the Ruined Sumplands, flip the switch on the rooftop to restore power to the machine. Its sequence is:

- Sell one green item.
- Buy those items back in the same order.
Selling the items alone does not complete this clue. The machine reveals 96 after the buyback sequence.
Grindstone of the Worthy: call out the colors
Approach the fallen machine at Grindstone of the Worthy and examine its arrows. Then look through the open window in the building above, in the direction the arrows indicate. The code is purple, purple, orange, orange. Call out the sequence; the trapped gatherer enters it and reveals 8-W.
Lopside: trigger the machine’s defenses
Speak with the customer at Lopside, then melee the vending machine to activate its defense system. Inspect the back of the machine for its code and sell items in this order: green, purple, blue, purple.

Together, the three clues give the coordinates 33-1 96-8-W. Follow the objective marker to the destination in the northern part of Grindstone of the Worthy.
Reach the final machine and defeat Vend Zane
Clear the enemies at the coordinate marker and inspect the final machine’s code. Sell one item of each rarity in this order: green, blue, purple, orange. PowerPyx’s walkthrough says this sequence requires at least one legendary item; it also notes that you can buy the item back afterward.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Complete the missable All Things Vend achievement
Do not end the mission after buying a legendary item if you want All Things Vend. After defeating Vend Zane, inspect the wooden board where the boss stood. It gives a separate code for the achievement:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Sell a green item three times.
- Buy one legendary item.
The machine drops a picture when you enter the sequence. Pick it up, then find Zane at Moxxi’s Bottoms Up in the Ruined Sumplands of Carcadia Burn and deliver it to him. This picture-and-delivery step is separate from the boss fight and is the part the guide identifies as missable.
Keep this quest separate from Maurice’s Black Market machine
The clues in this walkthrough belong to the Vend of the Line side mission. They are not instructions for Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine, which official update notes describe as a separate weekly activity with a rotating location and offerings that can vary between players. Borderlands 4 official news and update notes (December 11, 2025) cover that separate activity.
